Various partnerships and projects under theInnovation and R&D plan in Portugal haveexponentially increased both knowledge and skills -at scientific, technological and research level of theprofessionals working in these areas. A goodexample of the Innovation program in Portugal is theprototype of a thermoelectric solar power plantoperating with molten salt that is being developed incooperation with EDP Inovação and ÉvoraUniversity.
The 3i program, an initiative that promotes andcollects the ideas of employees and is an integralpart of Siemens' IDI, generated since the beginning abenefit of 3,4 million EUR. The participation rate isvery high – rounding 26,65%, representing 1658registered ideas from the launch of the Program.

As a social responsible company, Siemens assumes thecommitment to ensure the implementation of bestpractices that ensure from one side dignifying conditions oflife and work for the employees and on the other sidecontributing to the creation of a more fair and balancedsociety. For this, the company has divided its actions andcorporate citizenship initiatives in 3 distinctive areas tocover the different strands of society and environment.This are the areas of Environment, Education (Generation21) and solidarity and volunteerism (Caring Hands).
In accordance with its corporate sustainability strategy for2011, employees of Siemens Portugal took part in socialand educational activities and contributed with 1.400 hoursof voluntary work.
In regard to the promotion of Compliance best practices,Siemens Portugal included the booklet “Porquê” (Why?), asmall brochure of major success on ethics aimed atchildren, in partnership with BCSD.
