The Descendants of Charles, Second Son of“Tottenham in his Boots”,

a) Anne Tottenham (1744-1775), the Family Ghost - see App. IV.

b) Capt. Nicholas Loftus Tottenham (1745-1823) of Glenfarne Hall, Co. Leitrim, and of Stephen’s Green, Dub-lin. An officer in 15th Foot Regiment. M.P. successively for Bannow and Clonmines. He married Mary May,the daughter, and in her descendants the co-heir, of Sir James May, Bart., of Mayfield, Co. Waterford - sisterof Sir Edward May, Bart. - see also C1a-8. Glenfarne was presumably Loftus property. The house was burntdown in “the troubles”, and the property now belongs to the Forestry Commission and is, I believe, calledTottenham Forest.

c) Charles Henry Tottenham (1786-1836) (christened Henry Charles) of Glenfarne Hall. High Sheriff Co.Leitrim, 1820. He married the daughter and heir of George Crowe of Nutfield, Co. Clare.

d) Nicholas Loftus Tottenham (1815-1851), D.L., J.P., of Glenfarne Hall, High Sheriff Co. Leitrim, 1841. Hemarried the elder daughter of Sir Francis Hopkins, M.P., Bart., of Athboy - sister and heir of Sir FrancisHopkins, 2nd Bart., of Rochfort, Co. Westmeath. Sir Francis bought Rochfort out of the Landed Estates Courtin 1836 or 37, and left it on his death to his sister, Anna Maria. The name of Rochfort was subsequentlychanged to Tudenham Park or Tudenham - See App. V. Nicholas is said to have died of Famine Fever.

e) Capt. Arthur Loftus Tottenham (1838-1887), D.L., J.P., of Glenfarne Hall and Tudenham. Was in the RifleBrigade. M.P. for Leitrim, 1880-85; M.P. (Lib.) for Winchester, 1885-87. High Sheriff, Co. Leitrim, 1886. Hemarried the daughter of George Addenbrooke Gore, of Barrowmount, Co. Kilkenny.

f) Blanche Tottenham (1860-1903) married the son of Stephen Ram of Ramsfort - see Burke’s “Landed Gentryof Ireland” and had one daughter, who married Sir Howard Kerr, of Melbourne, Derby.

g) Charles Gore Tottenham (1861-1929), D.L., J.P., of Tudenham Park. Lieut. In the Rifle Brigade. High Sherrif,Co. Lietrem, 1898. He married the third daughter of Lord Athlumney (peerage extinct).

h) Major Harold William Loftus Tottenham (1889-1958) of Tudenham Park. Served in the Rifle Brigade andR.A.F. in World War I and in the Royal Norfolk Regiment in World War II. Educated at Haileybury. In WorldWar II he was taken prisoner at Singapore.

i) Dorothea Loftus Tottenham (1890-1921) married Major Nash, R.A.M.C., and died at Deolali.

j) Desmond Frank Charles Loftus Tottenham (1896-1916), Royal Navy. When Lieutenant in H.M.S. Invinci-ble he was killed at the battle of Jutland.

k) Joan Loftus Tottenham (1919- ) served in the W.A.A.F. in World War II. Married secondly Sq./Ldr. F. B.McCulloch, D.F.C., K.M.N. (KESATRIA MANGKU NEGARA - MALAYSIA) latterly Regional Director ofHarrison and Crossfield, South East Asia, son of Mr and Mrs William Daniel McCulloch of Ponteland,Northumberland, England

l) Nicholas Charles Loftus Tottenham (1922-2006) joined the Australian Imperial Forces in June 1940 andserved in Palestine and in Syria, and was taken “Prisoner of War” by the Vichy French. He sailed for Java inFebruary 1942 and was taken “Prisoner of War” in March 1942 and sent to Singapore in 1943 where he methis father Major Harold Tottenham (C9h-14). He was released in August 1945, returned to Victoria, Australia,and later settled on a Soldier Settlement block of land. He has been active in community services and wasawarded a Community Award by the Queenscliffe Council. As a State Councillor of the Victorian Branch ofthe Returned Services League of Australia he was active in the local branch, covering welfare and appeals onbehalf of war veterans, their widows and families. He was awarded Life Membership of the R.S.L in 1992 and

was also active in similar welfare work with “Legacy”. He married Mavis Jean, daughter of the late AndrewHarkness B.C.E., A.M.I.E., of Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

m) Anthony Bowen Loftus Tottenham (1923-1944), joined the R.A.A.F. in Australia in early 1942, and gradu-ated to pilot. He was posted to England on 24th May 1944, where he served in 463 and 467 Squadrons ofBomber Command based at Waddington. He flew Lancaster Bomber Aircraft as pilot and Captain during his34 tour of duties, which included commanding “S. for Sugar”. He then volunteered for Target Photographwork and was shot down and killed on the 26th September 1944. He was posthumously awarded the D.F.C. forgallantry in air operations after he brought his Lancaster bomber, severely damaged, back from a raid onBrest. “S. for Sugar” is now housed in the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon, London and has P/OTottenham D.F.C., printed on the outer Port engine nacelle. The names of the three other aircrew are printedon the other engine nacelles.

n) Barbara Alice Loftus Tottenham (1926-1976) served in the W.A.A.F. in World War II. She played InterProvincial tennis and hockey. Married Major R. E. Orr, M.C. (Middlesex Regt.), only son of W. E. Orr of TheGrange, Omagh. They lived at Tullylagan House, Cookstown, Co.Tyrone and Grange Lodge, Dungannon,Co. Tyrone.

o) Mary Loftus Tottenham (1929-1967) married Richard O’Neill, son of Arthur and Barbara O’Neill of RathgannyCo. Westmeath. She was captain of the Mullingar Golf Club.

p) Peter Francis Loftus Tottenham (1932-1999) , of Tudenham, Waterdale, Compton, Wolverhampton, Eng-land was educated at Wilson’s Hospital Westmeath and Foyle College, Londonderry, Ireland. He wascommissioned in the R.A.F in 1952 and after being invalided out in 1954, followed a career in business. Heplayed bridge at international level — created Life Master in 1965 — was awarded an Honorary TeachingDiploma in 1971 and was the owner of the Wolverhampton Bridge Club from 1970-1988. He was a member ofthe Staffordshire County Team for many years. He married, Eileen Mary, the daughter of Ernest and EileenSteward of Chase End, Rookery Lane, Wolverhampton, England.

q) John Anthony Loftus Tottenham (1953- ) Educated at Wesley College, Melbourne, Victoria and HamiltonCollege, Hamilton, Victoria. He initially pursued a banking career, but later left to take up a position asaccountant with a large agricultural produce firm. He married Lynne, 2nd daughter of Ian Campbell of“Windomal”, Redesdale, Victoria and resides at Donald, Victoria, Australia.

r) Jayne Meredith Loftus Tottenham (1955- ) Educated at Clyde School, Woodend, Victoria and HolmesBusiness College, Melbourne. She married Michael Redmond only son of Maxwell and Jean Redmond ofHobart, Tasmania and lives at Glenhuon, Tasmania, Australia.

s) Harold Andrew Loftus Tottenham (1960-1975) died of can-cer at an early age.

t) Nicola Clare Loftus Tottenham (1961- ) (Nikki) was edu-cated at Edgbaston High School. Afterwards she pursueda career in Business Management. She is now a Comple-mentary Health Practitioner.

u) Sally Joy Loftus Tottenham (1964- ) was educated atEdgbaston High School. She is currently Examinations Co-ordinator at the School of Engineering at Birmingham Uni-versity.
