ECCU & St Mark’s Cathedral
For an informative ECW workshop (see page 2 for details)
Our delegation has just arrived back from Triennial 2012
in Indianapolis. With an infusion and excitement that
only Triennial brings, the delegation is preparing the
next ultimate goal of Triennial 2015 being hosted here in
Salt Lake City. “The honor is great and the challenge is
exciting,” said one delegate. As the hosting diocesan
ECW, we will be involved in the preparation for the
approximately 5 day long event filled with spiritual
guest speakers, briefings by other church delegations,
workshops, and networking or coming together with old
friends and meeting new ones.
An exciting project that we are launching is a cookbook
with recipes from women around the west, called
Cooling with the Wild Women of the West to the Pacific
Isles. Along with the recipes, we will have inspirational
recipes as well. The funds raised will support a local
charity that will be honored at the 2015 Triennial.
As we prepare for that sacred space for women to gather
from around the world, we thank God for the many
blessings in Utah.

A reflection of Mom

At Diocesan Convention this year, ECW will host a
workshop on ECW and other organizations associated such
as United Thank Offering, Church Periodical Club, and
Daughters of the King. The Altar Guild no longer falls under
Women’s Ministries so we will miss their presence as they
transfer over to their new organizational ministry role.
Winifred Follette, Province VIII ECW President, will be
hosting the workshops in conjunction with our Diocesan
ECW. She hopes to bring life to the ministries that are
strong pillars in our overall Episcopal Church. Their
outreach is worldwide and their spiritual support is critical in
this time of change in The Episcopal Church.
Please watch for further information through our Diocesan
newsletter or our Diocesan website,
www.episcopaldiocese-ut.org, on this exciting workshop.
Please contact Laura Orcutt, Diocesan ECW, 801.368.5437
or [email protected], for further information. Please register
once that is available to ensure we have enough materials.
We hope to see you there~!

Nicknamed WOW for Women at the
Well, we invite all who are thirsty to
drink in the love of Christ and feel
refreshed. The well in ancient time was
often where women gathered to not
only get water, but to share in
community as women and to share our
story. But most importantly, the well is
where the woman met Jesus.

WOW
Service Project for Our Companion
Dioceses
Linda Garner, former ECW President at Good Shepherd
in Ogden, and now part of the Diocesan ECW Board, is
spearheading a wonderful project that all parishes can
participate in throughout the Diocese. We plan on
transforming simple pillow cases into sundresses and
send them to our companion dioceses in Mexico and
Myanmar sometime in the spring. They’re easy to
decorate with lace, rick rack, and other pieces of cloth.
A basket will be at the ECW Table at Diocesan
Convention to donate pillow cases if you wish, but most
importantly she asks parishes to make the sundresses
and send them to her. Information as to the date and
where to send them will be forthcoming soon. Please
see the last page of this newsletter for the pattern.
Whoever drinks of the water that I will give her will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give her will
become in her a spring of water welling up to eternal life…………...John 4:13-15

as the Distinguished Woman for The Diocese of
Utah for 2010-2012. She was nominated by Good
Shepherd’s ECW President, Linda Garner, for the
award.
Diane is an active ECW member and past ECW
president at Good Shepherd. Diane has dedicated
her life to the work of the Lord through service. In
each of her life roles, she treats everyone she meets,
with kindness and respect. Diane is a true lady, a
woman who reflects grace, humility, and integrity
Diane actually went to Triennial 2012 in
Indianapolis to receive the award. Her two
daughters accompanied her there. To their delight,
Bishop Scott Hayashi and Linda Garner escorted
her during the Distinguished Women Award

UTO Grant
St James Food Bank received a 2012 United
Thank Offering (UTO) grant for new commercial
grade refrigerator/freezer. This is a first time in
many years that The Diocese of Utah has
received a UTO grant. Nazanin Heydari, a St
James parishioner, started the Food Bank 1 ½
years ago in Feb 2012. A woman with a
generous heart and big vision, Nazanin saw a dire
need to help people as the economy was
declining. People need to have their basic needs
met such as food, water, and shelter. She sought
out how to meet those first 2 needs, contacting
agencies in the area and obtaining training. She
opened the Food Bank on Sunday in the
afternoon when she realized no Food Bank was
open on Sunday which in many cases was the
best or only time they could go get food. She’s
seen a phenomenal response from the community
in those supporting the Food Bank and those
receiving the food.
Mainly St James parishioners donate their time to
stock and give out the food. The St James
community garden started by Val Moore is very
generous at harvest time in donating their
abundance of fresh vegetables and herbs to the
Food Bank. As the Food Bank moves to a bigger
area within St James, feeding and taking care of
the hungry feeds the hearts of those who give as
well. Thank you UTO for helping us to help
others.
Our vision for all women of The Episcopal Church is that we become a vibrant blend
of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire
to be a God-spark shining and sharing the love of Christ….ECW National Vision
