The Energy and Resources Institute’s upcoming endeavour Krishi Dhan 2011 is designed to offer an insight into the future dimensions of the agri-sector. With an intention of introducing eco friendly and energy efficient concepts to ensure sustainable agriculture, the central theme of Krishi Dhan 2011 is “Green-to-Evergreen”.
We often tend to associate only farmers with agriculture. Although they are an indispensible part of the agrarian system, there exists a complex and symbiotic relationship between the farmers and the other links in the supply-chains and allied industries. Hence the forum of Krishi-Dhan shall try and get the various stake holders on a common platform and reach out to maximum stakeholders as possible

The objective of Krishi Dhan 2011 is to:
• To inspire and attract youth and entrepreneurs to modern agri-sector.
• Create awareness on
– Options for diversification of agri business as a full time occupation.
– Options for additional income.
– Sunrise sectors.
• Revolutionize agricultural practices in India.
• Involve cross sector stake holders.
• Emphasize on traditional wisdom and integration of contemporary technologies.
• Encourage interstate participation of farmers, industries and researchers.
• Showcase success stories.
Holistic Approach
Involvement of diverse stakeholders
Conventionally we regard the scope of agriculture only to the farmers. Even though they are an indispensible part of the sector there is a complex and symbiotic relationship between the farmers and the other links in the supply-chains and allied industries. Hence through the event Krishi-Dhan we would like to bring together diverse stakeholders including the industries, academia, bureaucrats, farmers, consumers, and beneficiaries of the agrarian life cycle on a common platform.
Introduction of new dimensions to agri sector
The programme is designed to offer an insight into the future dimensions of agri-sector and central theme for the event “Green-to-Evergreen” has been proposed with an intention of introducing eco friendly and energy efficient concepts to ensure sustainable agriculture. The focus areas include integration of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Agri-tourism, Finance consultation and Modern Agri-technologies.
Components of the event
An exhibition to highlight the future dimensions of agriculture, a conference focusing on the pertinent issues like impact of climate change on agriculture, RE applications, frontiers of agri technologies and unique build up events are some of the important components of the event.
Highlight of the exhibition: Walk through model of a “Green Farm House”
To impart technical know-how and create awareness about green infrastructure and building material, TERI has planned to display a walk through model of a green farm house to demonstrate sustainable architectural practices which could be easily extrapolated while developing the above mentioned green infrastructural projects. The walk through model shall be constructed as per the criteria enlisted under GRIHA, green building rating system developed by TERI which has been adopted by MNRE as a national rating system.

The key focus areas of Krishi Dhan 2011 include:
Integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency: TERI will introduce and integrate the green initiatives not only in the farm practices but also in the habitat, infrastructure and technologies encompassing the complete agrarian lifecycle.
All stakeholders will get acquainted with the latest technologies available in the sector by displaying the success stories and sharing the best practices, be it in farm-based energy production, biofuels, application of wind-solar generated electricity for power or any other related avenues.
Modern agri-technologies encompass pre-harvest, harvest and post harvest processes other than farm applications. As such, an illustrative exhibition has been organized by TERI to reveal how it helps to ensure increase in productivity, development of elite products, product enhancement and also in reducing post harvest losses.
Agri-tourism: Krishi-Dhan 2011 will largely focus on promoting agri tourism in Maharashtra and other states as a sustainable option for diversification and full time occupation / profitable venture. It will address the key issues while introducing a variety of features to attract national and international tourists. This in turn, will also give a modern dimension to this age old profession and encourage the youth to continue with the main stream agriculture.
Agri-finance: To initiate a business, financial consultancy and assistance becomes a prerequisite. As such, with the objective of identifying and proposing solutions and eliminating the barriers in the agricultural sector growth, several financial institutions shall exhibit information on their schemes, attractive loans, credit systems relating to agri sector, for green infrastructure, SME’s and so on at Krishi Dhan 2011.

Launch event of Krishi Dhan
TERI Launched “Krishi-Dhan”: A Multi- Sector Initiative towards Sustainable Agriculture
TERI’s endeavor Krishi Dhan that was launched on 1st March 2011, is a first of its kind cross sectoral
initiative committed to sustainable development of the agri sector. The central theme of Krishi Dhan is
“Green-to-Evergreen” with an intention to introduce eco friendly and energy efficient concepts to ensure
sustainable agriculture. It was conceived by TERI to offer an insight into the future dimensions and
upcoming business opportunities in the agri- sector.
Shri. Chaggan Bhujbal, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & Public Works (excluding Public Undertaking), GoM
graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Shri. Prabhakar Deshmukh Commissioner, Agriculture, GoM
graced this occasion as the guest of honor.
To ensure the involvement of all stakeholders and to motivate especially the Gen Next to take up initiatives
in agri sector and consider those as options for diversification and additional revenue, TERI in
collaboration with WE school had organized a national level agri business plan presentation competition
on 1st March 2011 between 3-7 pm at the Welingkar Institute, Matunga, Mumbai. The program was
structured into 3 activities; the competition, website launch at the hands of the chief guest and open forum
discussion with the eminent panelists and experts.
While welcoming the guests and participants, Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WE School, appreciated
the efforts of the participating Institutions and encouraged the youth to take active part in such endeavors .
TERI & WE School had invited abstracts from the leading business schools across India in January 2011. The response was overwhelming. The agri business plans presented by the youth from across the country were reviewed, out of which six were shortlisted and presented. The best plan was selected by an eminent panel of jury members comprising of eminent representatives of corporate world & the government that included Dr. A.K. Badhopadhyay, Executive Director, NABARD, Mr. Kiran Kurundkar, Managing Director, MTDC, Ms. Sarita Bahl, Vice President (CSO), MCX India, Mr. Sudhakar Desai, Vice President, Bunge India, Mr. Apoorv Sharma, Assistant Vice President, Indian Angel Network, Mr. Sachin Khandelwal, Sr. General Manager, ICICI Bank, Mr. Arvind Sonmale, Advisor- Strategic Planning, Jain Group & Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WE School.

Business, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Garware Institute, National Institute of Industrial
Engineering and WE School. Students of some institutes including the MIT College of Management, Institute

the agri sector and making it contemporary and outstanding for this country. He congratulated the
