Commissions and Task GroupsCommission 7. Sustainability
January 2020 32David Fernández-OrdóñezThe fib, achievements, innovations and ambitions for sustainable concrete structures
Chair: Petr Hajek (Czech Republic)Scope:The main scope of Commission 7 (COM7) is to develop a strategy as tohow to incorporate sustainability issues into the design, construction, operation and demolition of concrete structures. Design concepts ofconcrete structures should be based on a sustainability frameworkconsidering environmental, economic and social aspects. The main focus should be on: the reduction of CO2 emissions fromconcrete production, the reduction of energy use for construction andthe operation of buildings (incl. thermal mass effect), improving theperformance quality of the internal environment (acoustics, thermalwell-being, etc.), the reduction of waste to landfill, the development ofsustainability metrics and data requirements needed for EnvironmentalProduct Declarations and other quality assessment, recycling and useof recycled materials (incl. recycled concrete), resiliency of structures, etc. The goal is to prepare a framework and data for the sustainable designof concrete structures to be implemented in the new fib Model CodeMC2020.
