LUKE 10:25-37
Today in class I learned what the Bible says about…
Luke 10:25-37
• A lawyer asked Jesus, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
• He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”
• “You shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all
your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
• And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
• When Jesus told the lawyer to love his neighbor as himself, the lawyer asked “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus then
told the story about the Samaritan to explain to him what He meant by loving his neighbor.
• The story was about a traveler who was beaten up by robbers and left on the road to die.
• Three people walked by: a priest, a Levite, and a Samaritan. Only the Samaritan helped the hurt man.
• Jesus said the Samaritan was the only one who loved his neighbor and He told the lawyer to go and love people
just like the Samaritan did.
• The Samaritan had compassion on the hurt man. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, set him on his
own animal, took him to an inn, and took care of him. He gave the innkeeper money to care for him and said
whatever more he would spend, he would repay him.
What does the Bible say? • A lawyer came to Jesus and asked Him a question. What was the question?
• How did Jesus answer the question?
• The lawyer asked a second question of Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” What did Jesus say
then?
• What happened to the traveler?
• What did the priest do?
• What did the Levite do?
• What did the Samaritan do?
What does it mean? • What does “eternal life” mean?
• What does “mercy” mean?
• What did the Samaritan do to show mercy to the hurt man?
What does it mean to me? • How does God show you love and mercy?
• What can you do to show love and mercy to other people?
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
