POA Spirit Night with the Icemen
Dear Patriot Oaks families,
We are excited for our ChargerThon this coming week! This is our PTO’s
biggest fundraiser that allows them to help our school purchase additional
technology for students, add equipment to our playgrounds and build addi-
tional shade structures for recess areas and parent pick-up. We are so grate-
ful for their willingness to serve our students and our community. We encour-
age all to participate in sponsoring your child as they participate in our fun
runs!
Our elementary students will participate during their resource time while
our middle school students will run during their PE class. We thank all the
volunteers, in advance, for their help in running the event. Many hands make
light work!
We are excited for our upcoming parent teacher conference week, No-
vember 6-10. We look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your
child’s strengths, progress and areas that we can help them grow. Elemen-
tary school families, be watching for sign-up opportunities from your child’s
teacher. Middle school families, we will have open arena conferences on
Monday and Wednesday of that week from 3:30-7:00pm and 2:30-6:00 pm
respectively. These will be held in the gym and cafeteria. Reminder that 1st
quarter report cards go out on October 31, delayed due to Hurricane Irma.
Red Ribbon Week is next week and we encourage all to participate in the
daily celebrations. At Patriot Oaks, we are taking this week to help students
commit to living a healthy lifestyle of good nutrition, plenty of exercise and
free of drugs. This is a great time to have conversations with your children
about these elements of Red Ribbon Week. As was stated at our curriculum
chats, we are here to partner with you to raise children that make good
choices and have good character.
As always, thank you for your support. We love what we do and hope you
can see that! We are CHARGERS!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Olson

Families,
A second grader at our
school was recently
diagnosed with a brain
tumor. The doctors have
successfully removed
the tumor. Preliminary
testing is saying that
Logan has
Medulloblastoma and his
next steps will be

chemotherapy
treatments for
approximately a year.
His kindergarten, first,
and second grade
teachers have teamed
up with Chipotle to put
on a fundraiser for him.
The fundraiser is from
5-9pm on November 1st.
50% of the proceeds will
be given to the Logan’s family. If you are interested in going, please see the
attached flyer. Also, your child should be bringing home a blue flyer within the
next two days. If you go to Chipotle, please bring the flyer with you to show at
check out or let them know that you are there to support POA. If you would like

FUNDRAISER FOR LOGAN
Children should be kept at home for an extra day of rest and observation if they have: * Fever greater than 100 degrees * Chills * General tiredness or not feeling good * Frequent congested (wet) or croup-sounding cough * Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose * Stomach symptoms are not a part of cold or flu symptoms but for good health sake follow these guidelines for staying home and preventing spread of disease: * Vomiting (even just once) * Diarrhea * Symptoms of cold or flu A cold or flu spreads most easily during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fe-ver should remain at home until the fever has been 100 degrees or lower for 24 hours. Usually, antibiotics are not given for simple colds and flu. Strep throat or ear infections may require antibiotics. A child taking antibiotics should be on the medication for 24 hours before returning to school. A child may awaken with un-clear complaints, which could be a cold or flu. If this happens, it is wise to ob-serve him or her at home for an hour or two before deciding whether to bring him/her to school. Many of you do this already! Consider keeping children at home for an extra day of rest and observation if they have: * Very stuffy or runny nose, and/or cough * Mild sore throat (no fever, no exposure to strep throat) * Headache A child should be physically able to participate in all school activities when re-turning to school. Keeping a sick child at home will help reduce the spread of colds and flu in the classroom. It is a very long day for a child who is sent to school sick.
