THE PLAN FOR THE CIVIC CENTER
IS A NOBLE PLAN, A PLAN TO STIR
THE IMAGINATION. ITS REALIZATION
SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN WITH
A DE TERMINATION THAT WILL
NOT LAG UNTIL THE PROJECT IS
COMPLETED, UNTIL THIS SYMBOL
OF THE LIVING SPIRIT OF DETROIT
IS RAISED UPON THE BANKS OF THE
MIGHTY RIVER. FOR ALL THE WORLD
TO SEE.
— 1946 CITY PLANNING DEPARTMENT —

A NEW CENTER RISINGIn a world connected virtually, there is still value in real experiences.
The face-to-face experience of meeting. Of learning and growing. Of building business.
Of connecting.
We intend to stir the imagination.
And invite visitors to discover what makes things hum here.
WELCOME TO THE NEW COBO CENTER.
Detroit. Downtown. A city and a center, rising.

PREMIER BANQUET SPACEOpening in July of 2013, the Cobo Center Grand Ballroom will become the region’s newest banquet and event space. Equipped with a hydraulic lift stage for dramatic introductions, the 40,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom seats 3,500 theater style and 2,400 banquet or classroom style. It is dividable with a retractable wall and complemented by glass-enclosed, pre-function space and an open-air terrace, creating spectacular views of the Detroit River and the skyline of Windsor, Ontario.Add to that a new, state-of-the-art, 8,000 square-foot kitchen with private tasting room for the hottest event location in town.
THIS IS A DIFFERENT DETROITThe core of the city’s center is alive with new businesses and new residents, things to do and places to see. Right outside your door is the new, transformed Detroit Riverfront – 3.5 miles of RiverWalk – which embraces one of the busiest, most beautiful waterways in the country.
ON THE WATERFRONT
Hart Plaza: See the 30 ft. tall Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain, designed by Isamu Noguchi and the international Underground Railroad Memorial.
Detroit Port Authority: The new public dock and terminal brings Great Lakes cruise visitors to the waterfront.
G.M. Plaza: Part of the Renaissance Center and the G.M. World Headquarters, the gathering spot features synchronized water fountains and a granite world map.
Public Art: Walk along the water’s edge to view the new public art on the RiverWalk.

work of art or take a ride. Riverwalk Café: Grab a quick bite to go or a picnic lunch. Waterways Maps: An inlaid granite map highlights the 32-mile long Detroit River. Wheelhouse Detroit: Rent a bike or take a tour.
Milliken State Park + Harbor: The first urban state park in Michigan features a 52-slip marina, a 63-ft. replica of the Tawas Point lighthouse, wildlife observation trails and fishing outlooks as well as wetlands.
Dequindre Cut Greenway: A 1.5 mile long paved pedestrian biking greenway with examples of public and graffiti art – which connects to Eastern Market.
Stroh River Place + Beyond: Dine at the world famous Rattlesnake Club, with outdoor seating.
Beyond this 25-acre complex is the Mt. Elliott Park and Gabriel Richard Park, with a special butterfly garden.
Belle Isle: The nation’s largest island park.
