The Reconciled Church
John 17:20 – 21
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word: that they all may
be one, as You, Father are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be
one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”

“And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll, and to
open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your
blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us
kings and priest to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”

The Church’s Response
The Reconciled Church
Would you agree that the divide in the
church is a reflection of the divide in the
culture?
What needs to happen in the Charlotte
region for us to build bridges across the
racial divide?
The Reconciled ChurchPastor Matt Chandler of the Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, encouraged Christians to put themselves in others’ shoes, decreeing the“inability or an unwillingness for [his] Anglo brothers or sisters to considerwhat it’s like to be in the 13 percentile of American society.”
Chandler, who has spoken openly about his views on racialreconciliation, said he was surprised to see so many people expressfrustration over the #blacklivesmatter hashtag that went viral in the wakeof the deaths of both Brown and Garner.
He added that he believes the Bible shows how the privileged class tendsto “suppress or oppress.”

The Reconciled ChurchDr. Voddie Baucham, senior pastor of Grace FamilyBaptist Church in Spring, Texas, doesn’t believe thatsociety is inherently racist — and he takes issue with theso-called lionization of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, unarmed African American men who died at the hands ofpolice officers during unrelated incidents this year.
“For me when I look at this … one of the things that wehave to keep in mind is the fact that Eric Garner, MikeBrown — they were not Martin Luther King Jr. They werenot,” Baucham said at a panel event Tuesday night.“There is a difference. There is a distinction betweenindividuals who are living lives that represent what we arefighting for and individuals who [represent] lives that weare trying to rise above.”
The Reconciled ChurchDr. Eric Mason, pastor of Epiphany Fellowship in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, offered up his take on when
he believes there will be true evidence that racial
reconciliation is afoot.
“You’ll know when black and white racial reconciliation is
beginning to take root when a large number of whites
can submit to black leadership, and not feel the need to
be an authority with them to check their leadership,” hesaid.
