The Wisemen followed the star and found the Lord,
Jesus Christ. May we always follow the star of
Christ throughout the New Year.
Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ
is the light of the world: Grant that thy people,
illumined by thy Word and Sacraments, may shine
with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be
known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the
earth. (Epiphany Collect)
A star burned in the sky more brightly than all the
others; its light was indescribable, its newness
marvelous, and all the other stars, along with the
sun and the moon, formed a chorus around this
star, the light of which reached farther than that of
any other...Then all magic was destroyed, and
every bond wrought by wickedness was broken,
and the ancient kingdom was razed. When God
appeared in human form to bring the newness of
eternal life, his counsel began to be fulfilled.
(Ignatius of Antioch, Second Century)

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS
FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE 53rd WORLD DAY OF PEACE
1 JANUARY 2020
Peace, a journey of hope in the face of obstacles and trial
“Peace is a great and precious value, the object of our
hope and the aspiration of the entire human family. As a human attitude, our hope for peace is marked by an
existential tension that makes it possible for the present, with all its difficulties, to be “lived and
accepted if it leads towards a goal, if we can be sure of this goal, and if this goal is great enough to justify the
effort of the journey”. Hope is thus the virtue that inspires us and keeps us moving forward, even when
obstacles seem insurmountable.”
