DANANG: BC’s Comments:-
SOME TOUR PARTY OBSERVATIONS
There are many extremely able students. But, even with Vietnamese scholarships, many need additional funding and we need to get the message across that it is still worth applying to the UK
Not unusual for university staff to teach at different levels in different types of institutions (e.g. city and village) to improve their standard of living
There are a plethora of management posts in the universities (anyone with a PhD or MSc, particularly from abroad, seems to have one)
Few university staff are over 40 years old leading to a lack of professional guidance and advice as to how they, and their universities, might best develop
Possibly scope for the SG to assist universities with staff development, technology transfer, entrepreneurism etc. Needs prioritising and, preferably, Ministerial approval
SUMMARY
3rd visit to Vietnam: SG now a long way up the learning curve
Considerable advance publicity
Key event for the British Council

Very successful visit to Danang University of Technology
Strong support from British Embassy and British Council

Fits with current UK-Vietnamese Government policies
