The Testament August 2010 Vol. 8 No. 4 Lincoln Memorial Baptist Church ● Durham, NC
Thanks… Again!
If I said it a thousand times I think it
is worth saying once more, thanks…
again. This word sums up my
expressions for these past eight years (as
of August 8th) of pastoral
service here at Lincoln. I
searched high and low
for a word that was
s o p h i s t i c a t e d a n d
impressive and I could
find no bigger or better
word than “thanks” so I say it again,
thanks.
If I spoke French I would say “merci
beaucoup” again, and if I spoke
Kiswahili I would say “asante” again.
Those who can speak Hebrew say “toda”
and the Hawaiians say “mahalo”. But
since I only speak English I say thanks
again.
Pastor’s Corner
Rev. Linzie B. Atkins, III
In our English language there are
so many ways to express thanks.
Thanks, I couldn’t have done it
without you. Thanks, I enjoy working
with you. Thanks, you made the
difference. Thanks, you make me look
good. Thanks, Wow! Thanks, we
work well together. Thanks, you are
phenomenal. Thanks, I’m impressed.
Thanks, keep up the good work.
Perhaps the best way to say thanks
is to say “let’s do it again”. Let’s keep
loving each other, again. Let’s keep
serving God together, again. Let’s
keep forgiving and forgetting, again.
Let’s keep worshipping, praising,
praying, fellowshipping, and living
together in Christ, again. Let’s do it
again, and again, and again until Jesus
the Christ return.
Too often we underestimate the
power of words and the word “thanks”
is highly devalued and underrated.
God loves to hear this word. As a
matter of fact He said “In everything
give thanks: for this is the will of
God in Christ Jesus concerning
you” (1st Thessalonians 5:18). God
wants to hear our thanks and I want
you, Lincoln, to hear my thanks.
I thank God for my wife Marva
and our family, I thank God for my
pastoral ministry among you, and I
thank God for each of you. You are
important to God and you are
important to me. We have come so
far by faith in such a short period of
time and although we still have
work to do I will forever treasure the
precious memories and moments we
have shared and I look forward to
the ones we will share by the grace
of God.
Thanks… again, Pastor.

the outing.
As Deacon Mayfield looks on, Bro. Joseph Eley,

Evans pause for a photo to mark the occasion.
Pastor’s Aide Bakes A Cake Building on the success of last year’s successful activity, the Pastor’s Aide Ministry assembled a number of like-
minded individuals to participate in this appreciation event for Pastor and First Lady Atkins. Using the scriptures as
guidance, the “bakers” explained how their individual ingredients contributed to the baking of a cake as well as to
taking our daily walk with Christ. Following the event, everyone was treated to an assortment of tasty cakes.
Congratulations to the Pastor’s Aide for another successful event.

The Holy Alphabet
Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee
Move out of "Camp Complaining"
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To "thank" is a command
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
Xalting God most high
Yes, there'll be good times and yes some will
be bad, but...
Zion waits in glory...where none are ever sad!

Led by the Recreation Committee, several members of
the Lincoln family found relief from the heat by
enjoying a fun-filled overnight stay at the Great Wolf
Lodge in Concord, NC. Water parks were the attraction,
but fellowship was the main calling. Hats off to the
Recreation Committee for outstanding outing.
Sis. Adrienne Jernigan and Sis. Jacqueline
Campbell take a moment to enjoy the surroundings
during the outing.
