From Fr. Jossy’s Desk:
SOLEMNITY OF JESUS CHRIST THE KING
Today, is the last Sunday of our Church’s liturgical year. Yes, next Sunday we start the Advent
season. And so today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the
Universe, our King and the Shepherd of our souls.
Our Lord came as a shepherd. Shepherds represent those people who make a commitment to
live a life that is responsible for others. In this sense are we not all shepherds? Our Lord
desires to favor those who show responsibility for others. As King and lovable shepherd of our
souls, Jesus came to teach us how to live so that we might be made whole through Him. Yes,
He came to seek and to find what was lost.
Jesus as a king was sent to be our Savior. He desired that others should share in the glory of
being shepherds too. Jesus made God’s goodness abound more than evil does. He even
overcame death for us all. Jesus’ work is effective in our life as he enables us to overcome our
short comings. When we possess God’s love, in this way we are empowered to share in our
Savior’s work.
God desired to save the Hebrew people through the Patriarch Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all
the prophets. We are shown more fully God’s love and care for this world by the gift of our
Savior Jesus Christ. He is called the “first-born of all creatures” for from the beginning God planned to save us all through His beloved Son. Oh, what joy is ours when we choose Jesus as
our Shepherd and King? He can bring us peace and calm if we only decide to follow Him. Our
Savior shows us that God will not be overcome by evil, but will overcome evil with good.
