This Week’s Update Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Year 5 and 6 students who recently returned from a three
day excursion in Canberra. We are really proud of all the students who
represented TWPS with pride. They showed their appreciation to the teachers
through their enthusiasm, respectful behaviour and excitement. The student
visited many Canberra sites. Thank you to the teachers: Mrs Clay, Mrs
Robinson, Mrs Boon, Mrs Cother, Mr Watkins, Miss Redford, Ms Part, Mrs

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
To celebrate National Science Week we will be hosting a STEM Expo
‘Sculptures by Thornleigh’ in the hall on Tuesday 14th August 5-6pm. The
theme ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’, celebrates how innovation in
STEM is transforming the way we live.
Students engaged their critical and creative thinking skills to design solutions
to a range of problems with a sustainability focus.
Kindergarten explored how to re-use items to minimise waste. They tested
materials for water resistance, then designed and made an object for the
garden using recycled objects.
Stage 1 designed and created a bee hotel to help address the issue of a
declining bee population. They explored the benefits of re-using materials.
Stage 2 and 3 explored the environmental issues faced by The Great Barrier
Reef to recognise 2018 as the ‘International Year of the Reef'. They designed
and created sculptures, videos and posters to inform others of the issues and
game-changing inventions to help save our reef.
There will also be a sausage sizzle available for purchase on the night. We
look forward to celebrating the student’s success in STEM as curious and
innovative learners.

Fathers Day Stall 2018 This year the MDFDGG group will be holding a full Father’s Day stall in the hall during school hours on Thursday, August 30. The stall will be run in the same way as the Mother’s Day stall and all students will be given the opportunity to attend at a scheduled time throughout the day to purchase a gift. This year we are trialling the use of recyclable paper gift bags in an effort to cut down on waste and also to reduce the number of volunteers required. As there will be no gift wrapping at the stall this year we will only require a very small group of volunteers to help throughout the day. We are currently working on gift selection, pricing, packaging and the creation of a website so students and parents can get a better idea of what’s available. Please make a note of the date in your diaries and watch this space for further info in the next few weeks. Thank you. MDFDGG
