The Trinity Visitor
You don't have to be perfect. Bring yourself, do your best, and trust the Spirit. You're enough, and that's enough. Have fun with church and faith! God wants us to have joy in this life, as a preview of the life to come. Roosevelt said this too: "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing". I hope that you'll get involved in the next few months - there is going to be a lot of the "right thing".
You’re enough
Teddy Roosevelt, one of my favorite Presidents, said this: "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are". This is good advice for a person or a church. This Fall, we'll be adding some new education opportunities, adding a new staff person in the Parish Nurse position, fixing the parking lot, and doing what we're called to as a people who follow Jesus Christ. It won't always be easy, and we don't have to be all things to all people. We're only called to be what we are - a congregation that loves and welcomes and listens for the voice of the Holy Spirit. We don't have to be perfect, just do our best.
What NEXT?
Are you looking for a way to become more involved, grow your faith or make new
connections at Trinity? Check out our “Next Steps” bulletin board in Founders
Hall. You’ll find information on worship, learning, ways to serve, events and a
“help wanted” section. And each month we’ll feature a Ministry Team here at
Trinity. You can also find this information on our website at www.tlcmoline.org

Time to start Sunday school, September 8th is our first Sunday! Children can attend 9:00 service with family and leave after the children's word which will be before the sermon. Kids will be brought down from the classroom at 10:15 to Founders Hall to rejoin their families. We hope this makes it easier for families that attend 10:30 service to come a little earlier and send their children up to the classroom at 9:45 to join Sunday School. We are excited to start fall classes and hope to see your children each Sunday. The Children’s Education Ministry Team (CEMT) would love to have a few more smiling faces to help organize family orientated events. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Please let me know if you would love the challenge of getting involved. Amy Roehrs, 269-6607

Confirmation orientation
September 8th from
5:30—7:30 p.m. If you have a child entering
6th, 7th, or 8th grade, please call the church
office with questions or to let us know that they
will be attending.
We have been getting the classroom cleaned and ready for the new school year. It has been emptied out so the floors can be waxed. The floors will be polished and look great for the little ones. In the cleaning process we discovered some toys and dress up clothes that were worn out and need to be replaced. If you have any new or gently used preschool appropriate toys or costumes (especially princess or super hero) that you could donate to the preschool, they would be greatly loved. We are now excited to begin our twenty-third year of service! Classes begin on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Think about water for a
minute. Not the negative effect
of too much water like the
recent flooding or the dry
cracked ground when there is
no rain, but the necessity for
it. During the July heatwave
water was crucial. Life would
be threatened without it. We
were told to hydrate
frequently, bottles of water
were handed out by the
caseload. People found relief
running through fountains. It
was lifesaving. Some stories
about water in the Bible are
among our favorites. Jesus
demonstrates his power and
his compassion for the
bridegroom at Cana and turns

water into wine. He shows his
concern for the marginalized
with the woman at the well
when he tells her that can give
her life saving water. The
baptismal fount at the front of
the church is special as it
reminds us of that water
splashed and word spoken
when we were proclaimed “A
Child of God.” Picture a tri-
level fountain and equate
water with love. God’s love
pours into us and when we are
filled with that love it spills
over into the lives of others.
Praise God for the gift of water
which reminds us of our need
to thirst for and share the
living water.

Those who knew Craig Tigerman will remember him as a scholarly and devoted Christian. Trinity has recently received a copy of Craig’s new book titled Jesus in the Wilderness: Seeds of the Gospel (277 Tig) and the text surely exemplifies those characteristics of Craig. The author’s thesis is what Jesus might have done during those 40 days. We only know of His temptations by the devil so what else could there have been? Chapters 1-3 contain basic knowledge that we have about Jesus from the Bible. My favorite part of the book, chapters 4-6, a day by day account in the wilderness. Jesus is in close contact with His Abba and using the knowledge which he has gained so far in the 30 years of his life he considers His mission and how he will accomplish it. Each of the 40 days could serve as a devotional. Every thought that Jesus has is documented by what scripture tells us actually took place after the 40 days. There are also many works of art throughout the book. The numerous footnotes on every page, plus Appendices, testify to the amazing amount of research that went into this book. Library Lines are written by volunteers from Trinity Church. A review of anything from our church’s library, including videos, is welcome. Reviews from the children’s and youth sections are also welcome
