Despite rumors to the contrary, the 21st Annual Super Show and
Swap Meet in Colorado Springs will take place March 19th & 20th.
Pro Promotions recently announced that a location has nally
been secured for the annual event. We have a great location in
Colorado Springs called the Event Center at Rustic Hills at the
northeast corner of Academy Blvd and Palmer Park Blvd., said
Jim Wear of Pro Promotions. We are excited and relieved to
nally be able to make this announcement.
The recent sale of the Phil Long Expo Center prompted the
search for a new location last November. The Phil Long Center
will soon be converted into yet another mega church.
The 2011 Super Show is being billed as an Old School
motorcycle show and swap meet. Because of a smaller venue
for this years show, the organizers have opted to return to the
motorcycle only event of the past. Before we ever brought in the
automobile segment, the Super Show was an old fashioned biker
event. We love the streetrods, but this venue is ideal for a returnto our roots, said Wear. The bike community is our stronghold,
and we know that they are really going to enjoy this years swap
meet.
Attendees can expect most of the same features at this years
event including vendors, live music, bike show, great food, tattoo
competition and a few surprises yet to be announced.
For more information call Pro Promotions at 719-487-8005 or go
to www.pro-promotions.com.

Soakin Closer to Home
It was an awesome long riding season this autumn, but for some reason Im stillthinking about the great hot springs rides weve been on. Heres a little warm-up
spot to motor out of the mid-winter chills.
About 240 miles from the Denver area if you take the shortest route, Saratoga, WY
is a favorite destination for many motorcyclists during the summer months. The
shortest route for most of us is hwy 287 to hwy 14, through the Poudre Canyon
and over Cameron Pass. Most weekdays and anytime before Memorial weekend
or after Labor Day weekend are typically great times to make the ride with minimal
trafc. This route has dozens and dozens of twisties, some tighter than others, but
no actual hairpin curves. The smell of the pine needles up on Cameron warmed
by the midday summer sun is something words just cant describe. Watch out for
the surprise herds of mountain goats and the occasional moose or deer in the
roadway. No matter how fast you choose to race up this road, be cautious. You
will likely need to brake at some point around a curve. Odds are strong that you
will encounter wildlife and campers pulling onto the highway. Once off the pass,
youll be riding easy roads through the high plains. Connect with 125 northbound,
230 northwest to Riverside, WY and nally 130 north into Saratoga.
Another fun route to travel is Laramie, WY via 287 or the interstate, then head over
the Snowy Range Pass on hwy 130. This is the highest altitude, furthest north
and coldest ride to Saratoga with breathtakingly beautiful vistas from the top and
plenty of opportunities to enjoy the views and take pictures. Once you drop down
off the pass, stay on 130, which eventually hangs a right pointing you north again.
Saratoga is just a 9-mile ride from there.
If you have plenty of time, try riding hwy 40 over Berthoud pass to hwy 125,
taking you north through Rand and Walden, CO. Berthoud Pass is another high-altitude, hairpin turns, hair-raising ride that is huge fun in the summer! This ride is
somewhat warmer, being substantially further south than the rst two mentioned
routes. Along with the sweet-smelling pines, raspberries and wildowers abound
along this route. Rocky mtn. big horn sheep and the occasional black bear have
been known to stroll across hwy 40 in these parts.
Once off the pass, ride approximately 35 miles west and pick up hwy 125 just past
the town of Granby. Once in Walden head north, turning left at 230 and north until
you connect with 130 to Saratoga.
Saratoga offers more than one place to bathe in the sulphur-rich hot springs native
to this area. The Saratoga Hobo pool is free, open all day and night, and plenty hot
enough. If you want to take a short hike, you can dip in hot and cold water at the
rivers edge at this location. Its very romantic on nights when you and
are the only ones there with the full moon shining.

CustomChoppers In he la inallmen I decribed my que o improve he lighing on one of mybike, and now I am going o le you know how hi i working ou. I have hadome ucce, bu no compleely, a you will ee a you read on.
Fir of all, I upgraded he headligh by changing he ock H4 bulb o a PIAAXreme Whie uni. Alhough I have no ridden a nigh ince I made he change,I can ell even in dayligh ha hi bulb i brigher han he one i replaced. BuI will know more afer I ue i a nigh. (While I am on he ubjec of improved
headligh bulb, I would like o relae a ory from year pa. I bough a bulbha wa acually raed a 80 wa/low beam and 100 wa/high beam, for my97 sporer. I go o ho and/or drew o much curren ha i acually meledhe plaic connecor and urrounding wire! so I am glad my new PIAA bulb ihe ame waage-raing a he ocker. A repreenaive from PIAA old me hai doe no run any hoer han he old one did; ye, I made ure o ak hi ime!)
Nex I menioned he rear fender ip ligh; I go a 4-LED replacemen bulb for heock (#194) bulb. A I aid previouly, ha didn work ou o well, becaue of hefac ha LED are highly direcional, and he angle of he bulb when mouned onhe bike improve viibiliy only ky-ward, bu no o he rear.
I repored ha I wa happy wih he replacemen for he fron fender ip bulb,a i i a 40-led panel and very brigh. Bu afer udying i for a couple of day,I realized ha he panel i alo angled oo far upward o be effecive for oherrafc or pederian. so I pu he ock bulb and len back in he fron fenderand moved he LED panel o he rear fender, which ha a more uiable mouningangle. thi really work for viibiliy from he rear; i a keeper! I came from www.cuomdynamic.com, par #GEN-Ft-W. Mine i a whie ligh, bu hey alo havehem in red and amber.
Anoher plan I had menioned wa o replace he ailligh bulb wih a PIAA XremeWhie #1157 replacemen. I had high hope for hi change, bu wa diappoinedo nd ou ha my bike ake a differen ailligh bulb, a #3157 (ame general ypeof bulb bu wih a differen bae). I may ue he wo new PIAA #1157 bulb in myBuell, which ake wo of hem in he ailligh ecion. thi ough o make a bigdifference for ha bike.
In he pa I had improved he brake ligh by doing wo hing: adding a Harley-Davidon brake ligh ki, which make he urn ignal ino addiional brakeligh while i keep hem funcioning a urn ignal, oo. thi i an inexpenivemodicaion. the oher hing wa o add a sopper LED Brake Ligh, par #4635from Aeroich (www.riderwearhoue.com). thi i a nea produc becaue imoun nealy a he op (or boom) of your licene plae, look good, i verybrigh, i ued in addiion o he oher ligh already on he bike, and co only$25.
to recap, afer all he wapping of par back and forh, he fron of he ElecraGlidewa updaed wih a more effecive headligh bulb. And he rear wa improved wihhe brake ligh ki from Harley, he sopper LED Brake Ligh, and he 40-LED panelfor he fender ip ligh. I all ju give hoe inaenive driver fewer excue oay, I didn ee him. And he bike look oally ock, excep for he addiion ofhe addiional LED Brake Ligh, which i fairly unobruive. If I do anyhing ele ohi bike lighing i will be o replace he ail/brake ligh bulb wih an LED uni. Buha may be overkill; I hink hi projec i complee. Now ha he ElecraGlide idone, le ee how much I can improve he Buell lighing

Change YourPhattitude!By: Abby Clabough
You probably feel the same way I do aboutwinter. It sucks. Id prefer to keep riding un-
til the wheels fall off, but not badly enough
to leave Colorado. A little down time is
worth the incredible riding we get the restof the year. Besides, winters a great time
to do those things you need to do to keep
the wheels from falling off, making them
spin a little faster and looking good doing i t.Turn that bad winter attitude into Phattitude
at Phat Rides Custom Cycles in Loveland.
Visiting Phat Rides, which sits on a remote
county road on the south side of Love-
is like the bikers version of Willy Wonkas factory: lots of machinery foration, custom built tools, parts everywhere that you dont see everyday or
here else, and a collection of custom bikes that will make you drool.
y Hocker and Mike Savage, the two owners of Phat Rides, are proud of
work, and they should be. Bikes created by Randy and Mike have been fea-in Hot Bike, Hot Bike Baggers, V-Twin and Iron Works magazines. Awards
de the Excellence in Engineering at the Big Twin Customs Invitational, sec-
lace at the Rats Hole show at Daytona Bike Week, and 19th in the world at
MD World Championship of Custom Bike Building in Sturgis.
things in the shop caught my eye. Theres a Panhead with a see-througheto cover and a Phat Rides built springer front end that is a work of art.
They also have something that looks like a huge antique sewing machine. A
hundred years ago it was a Patented Wire Stitcher used to bind books. Randy
turned it into a planishing hammer with interchangeable heads used to smooth
out hand made gas tanks, fenders or any other sheet metal parts you can dreamup. Another tool created at the shop is a frame jig. There is no shortage of talent
or creativity.
But Phat Rides isnt just about custom fabrication and award winning master-
pieces; theyre happy to see any American V-Twin that wants to drop in for sometender loving care. Something you dont see in most independent shops is a
DynoJet Dynamometer. Randy has attended training with DynoJet Research for
the Power Commander.
This is where I learned something new. Anyone can download tuning maps from
the Power Commander website. However, the maps that are preprogrammed tomatch your engine, exhaust and air lter are all tuned to some guys bike in Las
Vegas. Sure, EFI is supposed to adapt to changes in altitude, but to really get
it right, you need to have a map for your bike and your typical riding conditions.
Randy can do that. In fact, he does a complete custom map for every range. There are over a hundred combinations of RPM and % throttle, and each one of
those is dialed in specically for your bike.
Phat Rides Custom Cycles
is a full service shop.Theyre open Tuesday
through Saturday from 9am
to 5pm and are locatedon South County Road7 in Loveland. Visit their
website at phatridescc.com
for a detailed map or call
970-663-4155. Stop in for aquick look around and leave
inspired.
