TIDINGS
VOLUME 78 January 2021 Number 301
Happy New Year, Dear Members of Zion! Well here we are, a new year once again. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been much for new year’s resolutions. Most years in January, gym memberships spike, fitness equipment is swept from the floors of stores. Promises are made. And don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with New Year’s resolutions or any of these aforemen-tioned efforts. We venture into these efforts to bet-ter ourselves, almost with the mentality of making us new again. There is something very alluring about a clean slate. God knows that a ‘clean slate’ can be a great de-sire of ours, and perhaps God created us with this desire in mind knowing full well, He would be ful-filling this in Jesus Christ. Spiritually, we are made new in God’s grace, and then from a daily perspective, when we adapt the ways of Jesus into our lives, we start to see others differently, we see ourselves differently. This doesn’t mean everything will always be rosy, but when faith is the lens through which we see the world, we experience the newness God promises, even if only recognized intermittently. We might have this great desire for newness at the start of every new year, but God is right there with you saying, “I want to give this to you every day.” And God does make us new, but whether or not we realize it, is what can change our lives, from our own perspective, not just from God’s perspective. Every person of faith has periods where we are seemingly gong through the motions. But if you were going to be more intentional about your faith, where would you start? What would this look like for you? There is no mold, and while there are
commonalities, an active vibrant faith looks
different for everyone.
In the book of Jeremiah, God’s people were com-
pared to Clay in the hands of the potter, in how
God can mold us and make us new. This New
Year, if you want to set some new health goals,
that is great and just remember that the clean slate
we long for, is actually something God gives us.
Remembering this can give us life and strength to
follow the path ahead. Blessings to you and your
family this new year.

Annual Meeting Date Change In a Zoom meeting early in December with the Synod we learned that since our congrega-tion is incorporated, even as a non-profit organization, there are state statues regarding congregational meetings that we must follow. There are two options for congregations meetings: face to face or via electronics (Zoom), either require our quorum of 40 active members.
The council discussed both options and voted to move the an-nual meeting, normally held in February, to an outdoor meet-ing on Sunday April 25
th with a rain delay date of May 2. We
will operate under the 2020 budget until a new budget can be passed.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Reminder no-tices will be given in the weeks prior to the meeting.

Very funny New Years resolutions 1. May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions. 2. A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the
other. 3. My New Year’s resolution is to start buying lottery tickets at a luckier
store. 4. My New Year’s resolution is to stop hanging out with people who ask me
about my New Year’s resolutions. 5. I resolve to work with neglected children – my own. 6. I will think of a password other than “password.” 7. I will no longer waste my time reliving the past, instead I will spend it
worrying about the future. 8. I will finish all the DIY projects I started and abandoned in 2019. Or, well,
maybe just one of them 9. I will be unashamed about the fact that I’m wearing pajamas in public 10. I will check my work e-mail account at least once this year 11. I will stop buying worthless junk on eBay because QVC has better
specials 12. I will help kids stay safe by not texting on my cell phone while eating
McDonald’s and speeding through crosswalks in school zones with a frost covered windshield
13. I will not eat medicine just because it looks like candy.

A new outdoor ministry is being organized with the first event of a hike at Perrot Park scheduled for December 5th at 8:30am. Finally, Pastor shared that Confirmation Care Packages are will be mailed out very soon with classes to begin in January. In addition, an “Advent Lights” project is also being discussed to construct ‘Blessing Bags’ for members of the community to include socks, snacks, etc.

The safe was damaged but a full break in was unsuccessful. Two locks were replaced, and one window re-paired. There was no vandalism, and the damage was minimal.
