1 - Export of the Catia tree structure in .txt file
Saving the Catia structure in .txt format:
is really fast and easy
enables you to export the tree structure in a .txt file
enables you to copy easily the ST references from
this file instead of opening successive Properties
tabs
is convenient for preliminary design phase while
the Excel BOM is not yet available
Tree structure too long for a screenshot ???
Think .txt export !

1 - Export of the Catia tree structure in .txt file
How to do it ?
1 - Open your assembly in Catia
2 - File Save As
3 - Select “txt (*.txt)” format
4 - Text file generated

2 - Graphic Properties Wizard – a clever tool !
The “Graphic Properties Wizard” tool enables you to check the graphical
properties of a selected element and the level on which this property has been
defined.
You can find this tool in the “Graphic Properties” toolbar:
The “Graphic Properties Wizard” tool available checks are:
1 - Color properties
2 - Opacity properties
3 - Linetype properties
4 - Thickness properties
5 - Symbol properties
6 - Show properties
7 - Pick properties
8 - Layer properties
9 - Low Intensity properties
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

2 - Graphic Properties Wizard – a clever tool !
How does it work ?
1 - Select the element on which you want to check the properties (it can be either
a solid or a wireframe element)
2 - Launch the Graphic Properties Wizard tool
3 – Select the graphic property type you want to check (cf previous slide)

Additional tip:
If you are lost and you do not manage to change the graphical
properties as you would like to, it is possible to reset the
graphical properties as follow:
Select the Body to be reset Right mouse click to access the
contextual menu PartBody object Reset Properties
Important note: Don’t forget to readjust the line thickness
after this action!

3 - Measurement of 3D curves
8
Graphical selection measurement:
1st Vertex
2nd VertexThe measure is only
applied to the selected
curve portion and is
delimited by 2 vertex
Tree function selection measurement:
Function selected in the tree
The measure is applied
to the complete selected
operation
!Do not keep measures in the tree !!!
It may be impossible to update
assemblies then…

3 - Measurement of 3D curves
9
Curve measurement using a Formula:
1 - First of all, we need to create a new length type formula
34th Catia/SmarTeam Users’ Forum05/12/2019EDMS 2279229
3 - Measurement of 3D curves
10
2 - Double click on the formula in the “Parameters” node
4 - Right click on the
“value” field and select
“Edit Formula…”3 - Rename
the formula
(optional)
5 - Select the “Measures” dictionary
then “length (Curve, …): Length”

3 - Measurement of 3D curves
11
6 - Double click on the curve you want to measure in the Catia tree
7 - Validate this warning message
8 - Final result:
An easily accessible
and readable
parameter which will
be automatically
updated while
modifying your
geometry

Curve length parameters can also be used as reference on the Drawing:
1 - Create a text box + right click on text to be replaced with driven value:

4 - How to build a parametric curve
Different approaches:
• 2D curve create a law with a parametric equation
• 3D curve create a 3D curve with a Cartesian parametrization
How to build a 2D curve:
• Create a law (equation of the curve)
• Create a guide (a line OR a planar curve)
• Define a support (a plane)
13
y = a × sin(x × b × 360deg)

4 - How to build a parametric curve
Result:
Inputs:
• Line.1 is the initial guide line
• Law has been applied on the Parallel.1 curve
• Plane XY is the support
• Parameter “a” is the amplitude of the sinusoid
• Parameter “b” is the wave number
• Parameter “Angle” defines the period to be applied to the law

4 - How to build a parametric curve
How to build a 3D curve:
• Create a “Curve from Equations”
Inputs: Result:
R = Ring radius
r = Ring section radius
n = circumvolutions number
15
x = ( R + r × cos(n × t × 360deg)) × cos(t × 360deg)
y = ( R + r × cos(n × t × 360deg)) × sin(t × 360deg)
z = r × sin(n × t × 360deg)
