Audience Survey & Research
Content Development Product Design & Development
Our “Strategy”
• Create & set up an audience survey over the internet.
• Research NASA’s present communication strategy to refine and improve it.
• Design an approach to communicate information about NASA’s Mars & Space Exploration programs to the public by linking it to everyday life.
Content Development• PSA – 2 main themes:
- BusinessBusiness opportunities in space & on MARS.
- Technology spin-offs
• Emphasis on a more humanized approach
• Issues addressed include investment opportunities, job market in space, sustainability issues on earth etc.
Product Design and Development
• Design – extensive exercise in animation development and video editing.
• Consulting with Georgia Tech media people on effective communication strategies.
Policy Research & Audience Survey
• Policy: Choice of Topics• Policy: Range of Discussion• Mars: Social & Tech Concerns• Sustainability• Survey Web Site• Survey Data• Companies and Annual Revenues• Civilian Aerospace Exports
Policy: Choice of Topics
• The Dichotomy: technical & social
• A Quick History - marginal social concern & technical
marginalization
Policy: Range of Discussion
• NASA’s Current Communications Policy
• Search Parameters: “NASA” & “Mars”(w/ use of VantagePoint Software & GATech’s BUSI – Business Index database)
-- Example: “Scientists”
-- Associated Keywords: “mars probes” + “outer space”+ “life on other
planets”
Mars: Social & Tech Concerns
• Better Businesses: Expanded Markets / Expanded Services
• Technological Spin-offs
• Confronting Sustainability
Sustainability
• Food Production• Water Purification• Clean Energy
