Dr. Ted Venema: “Cochlear Physiology, Oto-acoustic Emissions, and Cochlear Dead Regions" and "Retro-cochlear Pathology: What is it and How is it Measured" Ted Venema earned a BA in Philosophy at Calvin College (1977), an MA in Audiology at Western Washington University (1988), and a PhD in Audiology at the University of Oklahoma (1993). He has worked as a clinical audiologist, and also in the hearing aid manufacturing sector (Unitron). He has also taught audiology at Auburn University in Alabama (1993-95) and also at Western University in Ontario Canada (2001-06). In 2006 he initiated, developed and implemented the HIS program at Conestoga College in Kitchener Ontario. As of September 2015, Ted is associated with the online HIS program at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield Missouri. Ted is the author of a textbook, Compression for Clinicians, which has now been rewritten and available as a 3rd edition.
Dr. Amyn Amlani: “Direct-to-Consumer Hearing Aids vs Traditional Hearing Aids: The Why, What, Who, and How?” Amyn M. Amlani, PhD, is Professor and Department Chairperson, Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, in the consortium program between the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Dr. Amlani holds the B.A. degree in Communication Disorders from the University of the Pacific, the M.S. degree in Audiology from Purdue University, and the Ph.D. degree in Audiology/Psychoacoustics (minor in Marketing and Supply Chain Management) from Michigan State University. His research interests include: (1) economic and marketing trends within audiology, particularly with respect to evolving/disruptive technologies (smartphone-based applications, personal sound amplifiers/hearables), (2) the influence of hearing aid technology on speech and music, (3) hearing conservation for musicians, and (4) room acoustics.
Dr. Doug Lewis: “Legal Considerations for the Hearing Healthcare Professional” Dr. Doug Lewis is President and Owner of Excalibur Business Consultants, LLC consulting in a wide range of areas involving healthcare, business, microenterprise development, and law while also maintaining a small law practice on the side. He is also a Principle for the newly formed Private Practice Healthcare Solutions group brokering hearing healthcare managed care benefits. Dr. Lewis also is a General Counsel and Compliance Officer for several other related organizations and works as a Consulting Clinical Audiologist for several entities and an ENT Practice. He is an active Faculty Member for nine universities teaching in a wide variety of subject matters encompassing such areas as law and ethics, business, healthcare, clinical and administrative practice, science, nutrition, sociology and biopsychology, and medicine as well as being an instructor for the International Hearing Society’s ACA program for the last 15 years. Dr. Lewis considers himself to be a lifelong adult learner, having earned an AuD degree along with a Ph.D., JD, three Masters Degrees, two Bachelor’s Degrees, and an Associate’s Degree.

Dr. Lewis is the current chair of the International Hearing Society’s education committee, the International Institute of Hearing Instrument Studies.
Dr. Michael A. Harvey, Ph.D., A.B.P.P.: When a patient requests hearing aids but doesn’t want them: (motivational strategies for the hearing care professional)” Dr. Harvey provides training and consultation on mental health issues for persons with hearing loss. As a Clinical Psychologist, he has a private practice in Framingham, Mass., and had been a consultant faculty at Salus University, where he has taught on-line courses relating to the psychosocial aspects of hearing loss. In addition to over 40 articles, his books include Listen with the Heart: Relationships and Hearing Loss, The Odyssey of Hearing Loss: Tales of Triumph, Psychotherapy with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons: A Systemic Model, and a co-edited book entitled Culturally Affirmative Psychotherapy with Deaf Persons.
Gregory L. Smith, HIS/Owner Hearing SpecialistsChairman, Arkansas Board of Hearing Instrument Dispensers: “Ethics as it Pertains to the Hearing Instrument Specialist and Arkansas Law” A native Arkansan, born and raised in Mississippi County, Greg L. Smith is first and foremost a proud Christian. He has served as a Deacon at two different churches, Church Missions Treasurer, Church song leader, teacher, & speaker. Greg is a licensed Hearing Instrument Dispenser and Owner of Hearing Specialists in Jonesboro, Arkansas where he, along with his wife, has proudly served the community for Eighteen Years! He is a member of AHS as well as a former AHS board member. Greg is currently Chairman of the Arkansas Board of Hearing Instrument Dispensers and serves on two subcommittees. The Education Committee and the Complaint Committee. His other accomplishments include being an Arkansas Certified Eye Enucleator. Certified to draw body fluids. A member of the Arkansas State Crime Lab. Former General Manager of Arkansas' largest funeral home/cemetery combination in Central Arkansas. Former General Manager of 2 funeral homes and 3 cemeteries in NE Arkansas. National Board Certified, Licensed Embalmer. Licensed Funeral Director and Cemeterian. Former Arkansas Cemetery Assn. Board Member. Former Advisory Council Member for Crowley's Ridge College. Former Children's Home Advisory Council Member. Received Capitol Citation from the State of Arkansas, 1994.
