DAY BY DAY REPORT
DAY ONE:
I reached the ship at 07:00 a.m. and I introduced myself to all the ship´s crew. Then I helped
with the provisioning tasks being carried out for the course of the week. Later one of the
seamen showed me the ship and the second officer showed me the cabin so I could sort my
things. During the course of the day I became aware with the particularities of the vessel and
keep the watch with the Captain down to the port of Nueva Palmira. We arrived around 16:00
p.m. to Nueva Palmira´s were we took the empty barge and return to UPM, at that moment I
went to sleep.

DAY TWO:
I woke up around 24:00 back in the port of UPM and lend a hand with the mooring maneuver
because the plant was delayed so we had to stay at the port for that night. We set sail back to
Nueva Palmira at 08:00 with the loaded barge were I took the watch with the Captain, during the
navigation the Captain teach me a sort of things like the leading lines of the river, the passages
( “Paso Barrizales”, “Paso Marquez”), and some recommendations for the river navigation. On
that watch I had the opportunity to steer the ship with the Captain looking after me. We arrived
to Nueva Palmira´s port around 15:45 p.m. were we leave the loaded barge and took the empty
one, while the Captain was maneuvering I just watch him doing it and evacuate doubts when I
had it. Then I got to sleep.
DAY THREE:
I woke up around 01:00 a.m. back in the port of UPM were we leave the empty barge and
took the loaded one back to Nueva Palmira. On this watch I ask the chief Engineer if he can
show me the engine room, he took me down to the engine room and explained me all the
particularities of the ship´s main engines, start system, cooling system, turbo, generators, fuel
tanks, water tanks and their distribution around the ship. After that I return to the bridge and had
the opportunity to steer the ship in night navigation. I had the chance to put into practice my
knowledge’s about the IALA buoyage system at night in real life, and to watch crosses with
other ships at night too. We arrived to Nueva Palmira´s port at 07:00

DAY FOUR:
On the last day I woke up for lunch, and after that I got to finish the task that the captain
recommended me, I checked all the ship's safety equipment , fire extinguishers , life rafts , life
jackets , flares and escape masks to verify that they were not overdue or in bad conditions. We
arrived to the port of UPM around 17:00 p.m. because we returned with some headwind, and
the ship with the empty barge is less maneuverable on bad weather conditions. We set sail
again around 19:00 back to Nueva Palmira with a loaded barge and reached port at 03:00 a.m.
We return to Fray Bentos with an empty barge, by the time I went to sleep. I woke up at the port
of UPM and I got to pick up my things, after that I handed the form of the safety equipment that I
had done to the Captain before I leave the ship.
