It is a great pleasure to write this foreword for the book entitled,‘Trends in Library Technology & Marketingof Information’.
I am happy that the editor of this book has compiled 26 paperswhere the authors have spent a great deal of efforts to write it.The library which is also called as knowledge bank havetransformed from the traditional mode of delivering services to anew trend of accessibility. The book reflects the use of newtechnology for delivering effective services to the users. Besides,it also highlights the role that library can play in marketing theinformation product to reach out the users.
The book comprises of three different sections i.e., ICT, RFIDand Marketing Management. The study of Library Science hasgained tremendous significance all over the world. Therefore, Iam sure this book will be of immense help to students, researchscholars and for the teachers.
I appreciate the efforts made by Dr. Kishor Chandra Satpathy byselecting and compiling the various segments of topics andbringing this into the form of a book. I wish this book a widereadership all over the country and abroad.

Preface
The traditional libraries has now shaped to provide unlimitedinformation. With the advancement of ICT, the role of libraryprofession has taken a new zenith.
The book consists of 26 different papers which are dividedinto three sections. The first section focus on the Information andCommunication Technology, and its role and impact oninformation services. Second section explains the role of RFIDin library management system. The last section discusses aboutthe marketing of library products and services.
I am happy to acknowledge and thank Prof. N V Deshpande,Director, NIT Silchar for his cooperation, constant support andadvice.
Beside, I also thankful to my colleagues in library,facultymembers and staff of NIT Silchar, for their help.

Dr. Kishor Chandra Satpathy (1972) did his Post Graduation inEducation and Library & Information Science from PanjabUniversity, Chandigarh with a Diploma in Population Educationfrom Panjab University, Chandigarh & Post Graduate Diplomain Library Automation and Networking from the University ofHyderabad. He obtained PhD Degree for the topic “TechnicalEducation in North East India with Special Reference toInformation Service: An Exploratory Study” to Assam (Central)University, Silchar.
He has undergone several advance training programmes inIT, information management & related fields under SAARC-SDC& UNESCO/Vidyanidhi fellowships. He has, to date to his credit,over eighteen years of professional experience including teaching& research in several national level organization. His majorcontributions include use of information technology ininformation management and use of educational technology forimproving classroom teaching and learning process. At presenthe holds the position of Librarian and Coordinator, DL & e-learning Project at National Institute of Technology (An Instituteof National Importance), Silchar. Dr. Satpathy has successfullyimplemented RFID Technology & ERMSS at NIT Silchar & IIM
Indore Library. He was instrumental for signing MOU with BARC& University of Illinois. Apart from this, currently Dr. Satpathyis coordinating two projects namely “Education to Home (eth)Project meant for IT for all & BARC-Akruti Project” meant forTechnology Transfer to the rural sector.
He is the Coordinator for INDOLIBNET (Indore LibraryNetwork), SICILIBNET (Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute LibraryNetwork) & worked as a consultant for revamping the publiclibrary of Indore (Govt. Ahilya Library) on behalf of Govt. ofMadhya Pradesh. He has prepared a Vision Document for Govt.Ahilya Library. Currently, he is working on project of Govt. ofAssam for development of Silchar Normal School Library &Museum. He is the founder core committee member of NITConsortia & member of National Price Negotiation Committeeof INDEST.
Earlier he worked as Librarian, Indian Institute ofManagement, Indore; Panjabi University, Patiala; Centre forEnvironmental Education, Ahmedabad; Centre for ManagementTraining and Research, Chandigarh. He also acted as Coordinatorof Centre for Educational Technology; Coordinator, ContinuingEducation Cell & Programme officer, National Service Scheme,NIT, Silchar during 2001-2004 & Honorary Project Officer; StateRural Technology Promotion Council, Govt. of Assam;Coordinator, Environmental Education Resource Centre, NIT,Silchar. He has delivered lectures in several training programmesorganized by UNDP, QCI, AICTE, MSME & EntrepreneurshipDevelopment Institute, Bhopal etc.
He has 40 publications to his credit. He has edited fourworkshop proceedings and co-edited five books published byMcMillan India, Indian Society for Technical Education, Delhi,NE Books & Publisher, National Library, Kolkata and ShankarBook Agency, New Delhi. He has presented several papers innational and international conference in the country and abroad.He has visited Czech Republic, Portugal & USA for academicpurpose. In December 2013, he attended “Higher EducationLeadership Programme” at University of Urbana Champaign,USA. He has also attended the University of Illinois MortensonCenter Associates Program “Imagine, Question, Connect: A

Professional Development Program for Library Leaders andInnovators” from May 29-June 24, 2014.
He has successfully completed two major projects entitled‘Virtual Classroom’ & ‘Digital Library’ sponsored by MHRD,Govt. of India. He has transformed the Central Library, NITSilchar in to a “state of the art library” in the North Eastern Region.This is the first library in the entire NE Region to implementRFID & DVR Technology for Library Security purpose & to haveDigital Library. He has implemented the e-learning solution inthe Institute under World Bank TEQIP grant.
He has coordinated several national level trainingprogrammes, workshops & seminars sponsored by CSIR,NISTAD, ICSSR, DST, SICI, NCTE, ISTE, AICTE, USEFI,Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs & Ministryof Youth Affairs & Sports etc. He was the organizing Secretaryof SIS Silver Jubilee Conference, 10th Annual Meet of INDEST-AICTE Consortium &International Conference on “What’s Nextin Libraries:Trends,Spaces &Partnership.He is a life and executivemember of several Associations/Societies such as Society ofInformation Science, Indian Society for Technical Institution,AllIndia Association for Educational Research, Indian Academy forSocial Sciences, Indian Library Association, Indian Associationfor Special Libraries & Information Centres (IASLIC),MANLIBNET and Indian Distance Education Association etc.He was an executive member of IASLIC (2005-06), SIS (2012-15) & AIAER, Assam Chapter. He is an active member of “ICTDCommunity’ of Solution Exchange (An UN Agency). He waselected as a member, LPAC, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute forthe year 2008-09.
