Entrance Hymn – BlaenwernLove divine, all loves excelling,Joy of heaven to earth come down;Fix in us thy humble dwelling; All thy faithful mercies crown!Jesus, Thou art all compassion,Pure unbounded love Thou art;Visit us with Thy salvation;Enter every trembling heart.

Come, Almighty to deliver,Let us all Thy life receive;Suddenly return and never,Never more Thy temples leave.Thee we would be always blessing,Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,Pray and praise Thee without ceasing,Glory in Thy perfect love.

Finish, then, Thy new creation;Pure and spotless let us be.Let us see Thy great salvationPerfectly restored in Thee;Changed from glory into glory,Till in heaven we take our place,Till we cast our crowns before Thee,Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Friends in Christ, we are assembled here today by God, and in His presence. We as his children are receiving a kingdom that is completely secure and so we must be thankful and worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.

We will give thanks to God that he sent his only Son, Jesus Christ into our world; that Jesus died on the cross at Calvary to pay the penalty for our sin and rose from the dead to be the first of many to live after they have died.

To prepare ourselves let us hear from the Word of God:

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18

“Worthy is the lamb (Jesus Christ) who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise.” Revelation 5:12

Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, You know our thoughts and the things we do.We are sorry for the hurt we have caused othersAnd the ways in which we have not pleased you.Forgive us, we pray, for all of these things and give

us strength to resist the evil we face from day to day.

Lead us into your way of truth and love. Help us to make a new startWe pray through Jesus Christ our LordAMEN

Because of Jesus’ death on the cross, when we ask to be forgiven, God is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and remember them no more.

Thanks be to God.

Bible Reading – Tom BroinowskiThe lesson for this second Sunday before Lent is taken from the Gospel of St John, chapter1 beginning to read at verse 1:

The Word Became FleshIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Here ends today’s lesson:

Lord we thank you for the young people of our community and for the vision, enthusiasm and vitality which they bring to our common life. We pray for all children and youth, and especially for those in need. Give them a firm trust in your loving and eternal purposes.

Lord we pray for all those suffering and in special need – for the sick, the unemployed, the lonely, the misfortunate, the homebound and homeless. Lord we make special mention of those suffering in Syria. We pray, especially, for Chloe Palmer and her family who are dealing with critical injuries suffered in a car accident. As the God of all comfort help them to experience the power and consolation of your love.

We remember prisoners and their families, the victims of crime and their families. Magistrates and all who administer our laws.

Almighty God our Heavenly Father, your Son Jesus Christ shared in the life of an earthly home at Nazareth. Bless our homes and school we pray. Help parents and teachers to care for children with love and to impart the knowledge of Christ to them. Help us to be servants of each other and to be hospitable and caring for others. Provide for our needs and keep us from hurting each other. Fill our homes and school with peace and joy.

Lord hear our prayer.

Lord hear our prayer.

Lord hear our prayer.

Lord hear our prayer Through Jesus Christ our Lord

AMEN.

Gradual Hymn (St Denio)Immortal, invisible, God only wise,In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring aboveThy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

All laud we would render; O help us to see’This only the splendour of light hideth Thee,And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.

Jesus is the Word – the connection with God

It is the power of the connection. That is what we strive to develop.

Lord of the DanceI danced in the morningWhen the world was begun,And I danced in the moonAnd the stars and the sun,And I came down from heavenAnd I danced on the earth,At BethlehemI had my birth.

Chorus:Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he.I danced for the scribeAnd the pharisee,But they would not dance And they wouldn't follow me.I danced for the fishermen,For James and John -They came with meAnd the Dance went on.

I danced on a FridayWhen the sky turned black -It's hard to danceWith the devil on your back. They buried my bodyAnd they thought I'd gone,But I am the Dance,And I still go on.

Chorus

They cut me downAnd I leapt up high;I am the lifeThat'll never, never die;I'll live in youIf you'll live in me -I am the LordOf the Dance, said he.

Chorus
