BARAMULLA, June 9:-Saying that the youth have apivotal role in making theJammu and Kashmir a devel-oped, progressiveand strong State,the Minister forH o u s i n g ,Horticulture andYouth Services &Sports, RamanBhalla has said thatyouth can con-tribute best for thewelfare and pros-perity of State andtheir welfare andprosperity isGovernments top priority.

The Minister was addressinga huge gathering of youth atHathlangoo Sopore, here today,after laying foundation stone ofStadium coming up at the esti-mated cost of Rs 3.22 crore.

Minister for R&B, AbdulMajid Wani was also present onthe occasion.

The ceremony was alsoattended by former MLASopore, Abdul Rashid Dar, localrepresentatives, prominent citi-

zens and senior officers of theDistrict administration.

Mr. Bhalla said that the gov-ernment has launched number ofyouth friendly initiatives and iscommitted for ensuring better

future for the youth of the State.He said schemes like SKEWPY,UDAAN, and HIMAYAT havebeen launched so that youth areprovided with ample opportuni-ty to start their own entrepre-neurial units and get dignifiedjobs in multinational companieswithin and outside the State.

Speaking on the occasion,R&B Minister, Abdul MajidWani asked people to extendtheir cooperation to the

Government in successfulimplementation of developmen-tal programs underway.

Earlier, Mr. Bhalla visitedindoor sports stadium and tookstock of construction work for

the stadium coming up at thecost of Rs. 17.53 crore. Heasked the concerned executiveagency to speed up the pace ofthe work and maintain quality.

The Minister also visitedSopore Sports Stadium Tulibalfor which an amount of Rs.2.29crore has been earmarked, ofwhich Rs. 1 crore has been spenton the construction of thePavilion and allied works.

When Narendra Modi ended Ankita Raina's travel worries

He has promised to treatsportspersons at par with sol-diers and much before takingover over as Prime Minister,Narendra Modi showed just howserious he is about that visionwhen he resolved the travelwoes of India's number one sin-gles tennis player, Ankita Raina,in just one meeting.

Modi was still the ChiefMinister of Gujarat when Ankitaapproached the state's sportsauthority last year for help.

The budding player compet-ed in just 11 competitions out-side the country in the whole of2013 due to financial con-straints. But thanks to Modi'sintervention, she has alreadytravelled for seven tournamentsabroad in a mere five monthsthis season.

"His reassurance to me was'you play, we will take care ofthe rest'," Ankita recollected inan interview to PTI just beforecatching a flight to Uzbekistanto compete in her eighth event

She explained to Modi howtough it was for a tennis playerto compete in a sport, whichdemands extensive and expen-sive travelling.

"He gave me a patient hear-ing. I told him that I am India'snumber one player and the firstfrom Gujarat to achieve it but

still struggle to get sponsors. Ican't travel much due to finan-cial constraints. He promisedme that something would bedone. And within a month I gota cheque of Rs 5 lakh and nowall my travel expenses are takencare of," Ankita said.

Ankita's coach HemnatBendre, who was with her whenthe meeting with Modi tookplace, said the state governmentwas conceptualising a policy tosupport Gujarat players fromdifferent disciplines at that time.

"It all happened very fast.They launched the policy withina month of that meeting andAnkita along with others startedreceiving the financial support.It was a fantastic move by themand I hope other state govern-ments also follow the same pol-icy," Bendre said from Puneadding that Ankita has beenpromised support of Rs 25 lakhper year.

He has to give an assessmentof her performance after twomonths. (PTI)

Earlier, in the first match,Sartingle Club crushed HalliyanCricket Club Bhadarwah by ahuge margin of 123 runs in a one-sided affair. Batting first, SartingleClub scored a mammoth total of198 runs in the stipulated 20 overs,losing just 2 wickets in theprocess. Rakesh played a brilliantinnings of 87 runs, studded with11 boundaries and 3 massive

sixes, while Arif contributed valu-able 66 runs with the help of 6fours and 3 sixes. For HalliyanClub, Vicky and Arif claimed onewicket each.

In reply, Halliyan Club col-lapsed at a meagre total of 75 runsin 12 overs, thus lost the match bya big margin of 123 runs. Toheedwas the only batsman who crossedthe double figure mark, scoring 13runs. Arif was the pick of thebowlers for Sartingle Club, scalp-ing 4 important wickets, whileUmar bagged 3 wickets andDanish claimed 2. Rakesh wasdeclared Reliance man of thematch for his extraordinary battingdisplay.

In another match, Bella XIDoda drubbed Youth RedBhadarwah by a big margin of 85runs in an easy contest. Batingfirst, Bella XI scored a decent totalof 145 runs in the stipulated 20overs by losing 8 wickets. Rubani(37) and Imran 33 were the main

contributors. For Youth Red Club,Usman bagged 4 important wick-ets, while Arij took 2 wickets.

In reply, Youth RedBhadarwah bundled out for a pal-try total of 60 runs in 9 overs, thuslost the match by 85 runs. SaqibKhan and Arif scored 11 and 10runs respectively. For Bella XIDoda, Altaf claimed hat-trick,while Adil and Majid took 2 wick-ets each. For his superb bowlingshow, Altaf was declared man ofthe match.

The match was officiated byAbrar Ganai and Hinan asumpires, while Saqib was thescorer.

Earlier, in the title clash,Kulgam prevailed over Rambanby (2-1). Despite losing the firstset in a close contest by (23-15),Kulgam boys came back strong-ly and won the other two setseasily by (25-19 and 15-12 toemerge victorious.

NGO organized this pro-gramme for the students of far-flung areas of Leh to know latestgadgets used in daily life.

among the students. About 1000 students from 35

Schools of Leh participated inthis Programme. Last year eightSchools had participated in thisProgramme.

were the main events held for thestudent community during theProgramme.

As many as 11 teams fromthe different districts of theState are participating in thetournament, which is beingplayed on knock out basis.

The inaugural match wasplayed between the teams ofdistrict Pulwama and Sambatoday which was won by theUnder-17 Football team ofPulwama district.

KATRA, June 9: Topplingwrestler Kulbir Singh of KotBhawal, Jammu in the firstmain bout, wrestler AjaySharma of Landen PowerHouse Udhampur lifted the 4thAnnual Sarna Kesari Dangaltitle, here today.

The event was organized bySarna Dangal Committee atSarna near Katra in collabora-tion with J&K Indian StyleWrestling Association, underthe overall supervision of itspresident, Shiv Kumar Sharmaand Sarpanch, Onkar Singh.

41 bouts were played in thisevent.

Wrestler Ajay Sharma,received a cash prize of Rs3,000 alongwith Mata KiChunni, while runners-upwrestler, Kulbir Singh got Rs2,000 by Naib Sarpanch, SomRaj and Numberdar RattanSingh.

Earlier, the dangal wasdeclared open by presidentJ&K Indian Style WrestlingAssociation of India ShivKumar Sharma, who was chiefguest.

The second main bout wasplayed between wrestler Babbaof Kot Bhalwal Jammu andwrestler Balwan Singh ofMahore in Reasi district.
