UF Club Softball

Founding the Club
Founded in 2008 by Jessica Neer First competitive fast-pitch team on UF’s
campus aside from the varsity team Newest Club Team at UF
The Beginning
Club team began with a group of 17 girls
Practices were run by the team without a coach
Created a board consisting of 3 officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer
National Club Softball Association
Entered in the NCSA, too compete nationwide NCSA World Series: Consists of 16 best teams in
the country- determined by regular season play South Atlantic Conference Teams: FSU, UCF,
Florida Gulf Coast, Embry Riddle
Team Bonding
Team is close-knit group of girls
Bond on and off the field
Has team dinners, parties, events
Excellent opportunity to make friends
UF’s Inaugural Season
South Atlantic Conference Champions 2008 Georgia Southern Softball Tournament
Champions Placed 4th at Club World Series
Club Softball Branding
During the off-season, board members tried to develop club identity
Created a logo for the club
Started to sell Club Softball sweatshirts
Try to spread campus-wide awareness
My Personal Experience
Coming from NY I wanted an opportunity to join a team and make new friends
2008 tryouts were a 3-day process
Turnout doubled from year before
I was one of 4 freshman that made the team
2009 Season
Undefeated in conference play
SAC Conference Champions
Placed 2nd at Nationals behind FSU
Began ‘09-’10 season with fundraising push
Extra $ for additional tournaments
Held car washes and pancake breakfasts
Fundraising
Adversity
With additional games came problems
Team began to fight amongst itself
3 girls quit the team Most losses in
team’s history Did not win SAC
Conference for first time
National Championship Season
Despite the rocky start, finished out the ‘10 season receiving the at-large bid to the World Series
Went undefeated at the World Series National Champions, defeat FSU
Get Involved!
In midst of ‘10-’11 season, 6-0 so far through conference play
Next home games are on March 20th against Johns Hopkins University
