A tank battalion of an infantry division had a differentmission than that of their armored division counterparts. The infantrys four tank companieswere to provide directfire support to thedivisions27 rifle companies.Aswouldbeexpected, thesetankerswereinhighdemand, andalwaysinvolved in the thick of the action, blasting the enemysdefenses at close-range, counterattacking enemy break-throughs,andreinforcingthestrengthandspiritofthemenonthefrontlines.
