How many times over the last few months have you askedyourself 5 "What ever happened to the B,C, Pipers' Newsletter"?We Imow many of you have missed our monthly publication andhope you all have been somewhat concerned. Well, after almosta year we are in business again.

Before proceeding any further, on behalf of the Directorsof the Association we would like to extend our apologies forthe lack of publication and at the same time extend our mostsincere appreciation to Messrs, Ian Walker, William McAdie,Donald Urquhart and Ken Mcllvena for their superb efforts inproducing the Newsletter over the last eight years.

As many of you remember, the first edition was printed inApril, i960 as a three page notice. The Newsletter increased insize- as the months went by and in April, I96I a new format wasIntroduced in the form of a magazine. By this time the magazinewas a full scale publication and the circulation grew to over ^-00reaching as far as Alaska, Australia and Scotland.

During the entire eight years of publication Mr, Walkerhas been the editor and inspiration of the Newsletter whileMessrs. McAdie, Mcllvena and Urquhart put in many long eveningsprinting and circulating the finished products. Unfortmatelythese members have been forced to discontinue their active participation due to family, business and other social obligations,WE OF THE ASSOCIATION ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL FOR THEIR ENDEAVOURS,When we attempted to continue producing a Newsletter that wouldcome anywhere near duplicating the previous high standard, theirtalents v;ere more fully appreciated.

Since edition number 87 (February-March, 1968) there has beenno Newsletter. The Directors of the Association gave serious^consideration to this fact but the problems and responsibilitiesseemed to be more than anyone wanted to handle. Finally it wasdecided to start anew with two or three pages.

The purpose of the Newsletter is more than to serve as an_For many members it is the only communi-

Unfortunately, without thebi-monthly

entertaining magazine, cation link with the Association.

Newsletter, those interested in attending meetingscompetitions and social gatherings are not av/are of these events. With the continued publication, a more active interest in theB.C. Pipers' Association is anticipated and the prospect ofseeing more of our members at Association functions is forseen.

j

Hopefully the Newsletter will develop and grow to the finemagazine it once was. Until that time \ie are depending on yourpatience and HELP. We would like to encourage members of thepiping community to send material of interest to the ActingEditor, c/o B.C. Pipers' Association, 1073 Doran Road, WorthVancouver, B.C.

See you next month.

An enjoyable evening of entertainment was provided by aquartet from the Port Moody Pipe Band made up of Mike Evans,Mike Macinnes, Bruce McRae and Pipe blajor Fred Brodie.Especially enjoyed were the highland dancers, Linda Gunnand Sharyn Elder, who danced the Highland Fling and then didIfeiri's Wedding to the strum of a guitar and the melodiousvoices of Allan MacNeil and Bob Gunn.. Allan also sang "TheHiking Song", "Eily", "Lovely Stornoway" and "Dark Island".His singing was extremely pleasant to listen to and was mostappreciated by all, . ,

One of the most pleasurable evenings of piping I have heardin many years followed. Tunes were played by Jim MacMillan,Alex Young, Alex Finlayson accompanied by his wife on thepiano, Laurie MacDonald, Alex Reid, John Macdonald, John M.MacDonald, Bill Russel, Albert Duncan, Fred Brodie and BillElder, We were also favoured with aaiighland Fling by NeilStubberfield and some Gaelic Airs by Alex Finlayson. Aseldom heard treat was an excellent'piping selection by oneof our more senior members, Seb Nellies.

The atmosphere of the evening was enhanced nicely by havinga large percentage of the men folk in Highland Dress. Wesurely hope this trend will continue in future years.

William Elder, Jr.

On Sunday, February 9th, Mrs. Ishabel Ross went to visitMr. D.R. MacDougall in Shaughnessy Hospital. He was verysorry he missed the dinner and sends greetings to all.
