1-Click File Restore
Poll question #1
Who performs file restores in
your organization?
IFLR
Pre-v6
Find the file to be recovered using Veeam
Enterprise Manager.
1. Write down the backup file information for the
desired restore point.
2. Connect to and open the console on the
appropriate Veeam Backup Server.
3. Launch the File Level Restore wizard.
4. Find the required backup file.
5. Select the desired restore point.
6. Launch the restore. The file browser opens.
7. Find the file to restore among the files in the
directory.
8. Right-click and select Copy to…
9. Select or enter the destination for the restore.
Fail because permission or network issues prevent
access to the destination server.
10. Save the file on your desktop.
11. Ship the file to the owner (email, USB stick, etc.).

v6
Find the file to be recovered using Veeam
Enterprise Manager.
1. Click to restore file to its original location.
1-Click File Restore

Web-
based
1-Click File Restore (continued)
Find and restore individual guest files back to the original
location with a single click in seconds!
Files are restored in-place and directly to the virtual disk
of live production VM
Eliminates the possibility of operator error
Speeds file restores and improves RTO 10x or more
1-Click File Restore (continued)
Delegated
● File restore operator role (limited to IFLR tasks and views)
● Can restrict to restoring specific file types only
Secure
● File restore operators do not need permissions on Veeam backup
files, the host, the target VM, or restored files
● Can restrict access to the content of restored files
Fast
● Google-like search for files in guest file system index
● Based on proven IFLR engine
(restore directly from backup file without staging)
1-Click File Restore (continued)
Robust
● Does not require agent inside VM
● Does not require direct network connection to VM
Safe
● Preserves original file automatically (renamed)
● Restores as new file if original file is locked
Complete
● Preserves file permissions and ownership
● Supports GPT partitions and simple dynamic disks

Poll question #2
Which migration capabilities
are you licensed for
(with VMware)?
VM Migration for VMware
Wizard to migrate one or more VMs:
● Between hosts
● Between datastores
● Between hosts and datastores at the same time
Uses VMware vMotion or VMware Storage vMotion, when available
Otherwise, uses Veeam Quick Migration technology to migrate running VMs with least possible downtime
Tightly integrated with vPower engine for smooth
finalization of Instant VM Recovery
● Unchanged data blocks are copied directly from the backup file,
instead of vPower NFS, increasing speed and reducing impact
Scenario 1: Migrate VMs between hosts
Scenario 2: Migrate VMs between datastores
Scenario 3: Migrate VMs between hosts & datastores
But wait, there’s more!
Introducing SmartSwitch™
● Transfers the running state of the VM during migration
● Minimizes downtime (eliminates shutdown/reboot cycle)
● Ideal for Instant VM Recovery
How it works
1. Pauses the source VM
2. Copies virtual disk deltas and VM memory state
3. Resumes the target VM
Requires that source and target hosts have compatible
CPUs

What else is new in v6?
Engine
Backup
Restore
Indexing and search
Statistics and reports
Windows UI
Enterprise Manager UI
PowerShell
Other
Engine
Improved source data retrieval performance
● Engine optimizations provide up to 5x faster speed
(depending on storage, processing mode and proxy server)
TCP/IP connection multi-threading
● Proxies can establish multiple connections with each other and
with repositories, allowing for better WAN link utilization
Swap file exclusion
● Virtual disk blocks belonging to swap files are automatically
excluded from processing
Backup
Backup file mapping
● Map new job to existing v6 backup file to eliminate need for an
initial full backup
Enhanced backup file format
● New metadata file (.VBM)
● Speeds backup import
● Full backward compatibility with older backups
Enhanced compatibility with deduplicating storage
● Less “chat” with existing backup files
● Optional backup file data alignment
Restore
Hot Add restores
● Dramatically improve performance of full VM restores
● No performance issues with thin disks (unlike direct SAN restore)
1-click full VM restore
● In-place restore of full VM (to original location)
● Minimizes the chance of user error and speeds recovery
Virtual disk restore wizard
● Enables support for restoring thin disks as thin
Restore (continued)
Network mapping
● Restored VMs can be automatically reconfigured according to
virtual network defined as part of restore job
VM ID preservation
● Preserves VM ID during in-place restore of full VM
● Prevents backup jobs and 3rd party tools tied to VM ID from
breaking
Full support for DVS switches
● Improves RTOs by removing additional network configuration
● Important for environments with vCloud Director
Indexing and search
Microsoft Search Server is now optional
● Use guest file search capabilities out of the box!
● Scalability TBD (few hundred VMs expected)
● Microsoft Search Server support still available for better search
performance in environments with thousands of VMs
Reduced catalog size
● Size of guest file catalog is reduced several times!
Statistics and reports
Enhanced real-time statistics
● Improved design and usability
● New counters (data read & transferred, operation duration)
● More frequent updates
Enhanced reports
● Changed data per VM
● Compression and deduplication statistics
Bottleneck monitor
● Percent busy time for each data processing stage makes it
easy to identify primary bottleneck for each job
Statistics and Reports (Continued)
Windows UI
Usability improvements
● All wizards now provide quick navigation from any step
● Dynamic wizards automatically show/hide additional steps
depending on selections to speed up configuration tasks
VM ordering
● Ability to order VMs within a job
Multi-user access
● Multi-user access to the Veeam Backup & Replication console
for simultaneous administration
Enterprise Manager UI
Job cloning
● Quickly clone existing jobs
Job editing
● Edit contents, accounts and schedule of any job
● Clone job and modify it right in the web UI!
FIPS compliance
● Adjustments to the encryption algorithm have been made to
make the web interface FIPS-compliant out of the box
Look and feel
● Web UI has been redesigned and looks awesome!
Enterprise Manager UI (continued)
PowerShell
Full support for all new entities (including Hyper-V)
Simplified syntax (e.g., built-in Name parameter)
Support for masks in object names
Object search (same as in UI)
Find-VBRViEntity -Name fs*
Gets all VMware VMs with names starting from “fs” letters
Get-VBRBackupRepository -Name NAS
Selects backup repository with name “NAS”
Add-VBRHvBackupJob -BackupRepository (Get-VBRBackupRepository
-Name Drobo)-Entity (Find-VBRHvEntity -Name *db)
Creates a Hyper-V backup job to backup repository “Drobo” and
adds all VMs ending with “db” to the job
Other features
1-click install for backup infrastructure components
● Automated, wizard-driven install of proxies and repositories
● No messing with virtual appliances import and configuration!
1-click upgrade
● Upgrade wizard automatically detects out-of-date components and
pops up when you open UI
● All v6 components (including those in remote offices) can be upgraded
to the new version with a single click
1-click log collection
● Collects logs from remote service and prepares support package
Multiple minor improvements
● SureBackup, file copy, Windows IFLR, UI, etc.
