Architecture is not a private affair; even a house must serve a whole family and its friends, and most buildings are used by everybody, people of all walks of life. If a building is to meet the needs of all the people, the architect must look for some common ground of understanding and experience

Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan.

The projects sits at the historical site of Museum island where its surrounded by the River spree. Unfortunately, Museum island has progressively turned its back on its river, which has become a forgotten drain rather than a living, changing natural focus for the city.
Taking the museum island fragmented condition and typology. The design focuses upon foregrounding and re-engaging the presence of the river breaking down a series of abrupt and divisive river edges and creating a narrative formed by a viewing area, a museum of island history, a internal courtyard, river boat tour, outdoor seating area, cafe/bar that reconnects the different layers of river and land with the existing fabric. The museums architecture aims to be poetic and mysterious, as if sprung from the landscape, in search for fusion with nature. Its runs along the edge of the river spree the tour of the museum is linear, that connects all the itineraries available and creating a sequence/journey through the island. In the musuem the visitors ventures into a completly enclosed space filtering the views of the monumental buildings on site and allowing glimpses of the river to focus on the river and the history of the island. The presence and connection of the river to land is intesified in the internal courtyard part of the lust garden public area is sunken and paths is carved to let the the river surround the courtyard. Allowing access to the ground level existing public spaces (humbolt forum and the temporary public space).
While the enclosed spaces allows visitors to become immersed in the visual and atmospheric experience of the river. The programs like the small boat tour offers a different experience, a physical experience and connection with the surrounding fabric and river. Arriving at the viewing area a view that unfolds the mysterious journey and start to give an idea of place where the river and canal meet. It directs the visitor back to the museum historical exhibits and the main river strip. Followed by the cafe/bar and shop where visitors can linger or rest further ahead at the outdoor seating area. The journey culminates at another viewing area at the edge where the river and canal joins again restablishing and repositioning the visitors perspective and sense of the island and river presence.
