2017/18 has been an interesting year for TSWA and I hope to see many of you at our AGM at the end of July.
Progress towards greater integration with Tennis West (TW) has acceler-ated recently with excellent support from Michael Roberts (CEO TW) and his team. TW will take a greater role in managing the tennis operations of TSWA going forward, starting with the 2018 State Titles in October. This arrangement brings with it access to TW resources, network and other benefits that will only serve to strengthen our competitions. TW is also assisting TSWA in planning for the 2020 National Seniors’ Titles, which we hope to run in the South-West of WA in January of that year.
Busselton and Bunbury Tennis clubs have expressed interest in hosting the event and this is our preferred option. Alternatively, the event will be hosted in Perth.
The 2018 National Titles in the Gold Coast saw record levels of participa-tion from WA teams and we hope to field another strong squad for Shepparton in January 2019. Nominations will be canvassed soon. Congratulations to Alan Gooch, Helen Muir and Jan Maddison for recently being selected to represent Australia in the upcoming interna-tional tournament in Croatia in September.
The lease situation at Robertson Park remains uncertain, with our current tenure only extended to August 2019. The City of Vincent has been reluctant to enter into negotiations with TSWA on a new lease until Tennis West has concluded its deliberations on findings from a recent strategic review of tennis facilities throughout the State and a further review of the future location for the State Tennis Centre.
As a result of this ongoing uncertainty, the committee has been reluctant to invest heavily from TSWA funds in upkeep of the synthetic and hard courts or in improvements to the clubhouse at Robertson Park. I expect that in 2018/19 we will gain greater clarity from the City of its intentions in relation to the Centre, which in turn will allow TSWA to develop its own longer-term plans.

Australian Teams Carnival in 2019 will be hosted by Tennis Seniors
SHEPPERTON VIC.
Teams Week: 6—11 January
Individual Championships 13—18 January
The Teams Carnival is a doubles competition for both women and men and is a wonderful opportunity
to compete against teams and players from all over Australia and overseas. Enter a team with your
friends through your State, or nominate in your State and be selected in a team. Teams should ideally
consist of 5 or 6 players, and will play other teams in their division in a round robin competition.
Teams are grouped according to player age, in 5 or 10 year brackets from age 35 years, and are placed
in divisions within an age bracket according to team strength.
Teams may play two matches per day (morning and afternoon) with a time limit of 2.5 hours per
match. Matches consist of 4 doubles and are played using the best of 2 set format.
Team members must play in their State or National tops or shirts.
Social functions are organised during the week, and there is an official opening on Sunday afternoon
after the practice sessions on 7 January 2018.
