Recommended by Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2016 as a top thing to do on Waiheke Island!
The Vineyard Hopper is for people who like to plan their own adventure at their own pace. A unique and cost effective hop on, hop off bus service, where you can visit some or all of the participating vineyards and stay for as long or as little as you like, without having to worry about driving.
Waiheke Island is home to 30 vineyards, many boasting award winning wines. The Hopper’s timetable has been carefully designed so that you can visit 8 key locations through 6 convenient stops. This means all you need to think about is where you want to spend your day discovering Waiheke’s gourmet foods and wines, amongst a backdrop of stunning scenery.
PLANNING YOUR DAYDesign your own itinerary: The options are endless but a bit of “Hopper” advice would be to consider where you want to have lunch, perhaps make a booking in advance as these vineyards are really popular. Then work out your “must do” visits and go from there. Alternatively, go with the flow or have a chat to the friendly Hopper drivers who are full of information about vineyards, pick-up times, walking tracks and anything else you need to know for a great day out.
Your ride to the next vineyard is never far away: Two Hopper buses circulate the Hopper route running 60 minutes apart. The buses are marked with 'Waiheke Vineyard Hopper'.
Wear comfortable shoes: One of our featured vineyards is accessible by a short walking track. It's only a 5 minute walk and is definitely worth the time. Besides, why wouldn’t you want to stroll through the grapevines for a true vineyard experience.
Here’s something for the adventurers: If you want to deviate off the Hopper trail or extend your day at the end of the Hopper service, your Hopper pass allows you to travel on Waiheke’s public bus services too.
PLEASE NOTE: Vineyard Hopper is not suitable for children. A passport or New Zealand Drivers License is required as proof of ID to purchase or consume alcohol.
