(called My Life, My Health) is geared to older
adults who either lives with daily challenges of
one or more ongoing health conditions or cares
For someone with these conditions. Workshop

can use to assume an active role in the manage-
ment of their illness. Among the tools intro-
duced are physical activity and healthy eating,
medication management , action planning and
decision making, breathing techniques , weight
management, communication, and working with
health care professionals. Participants make
weekly action plans, share experiences, and
help each other solve problems they encounter
in creating and carrying out their self-
management program.
Why not join us for this informative and benefi-
cial six week workshop sponsored by Old
Colony Elder Services in partnership with The
Rockland Council on Aging. The program will
be on Wednesdays, 9:30am - 11:00am
starting February 7th at no cost. Please call

February is American Heart Month
The American Heart Association wants to help
everyone live longer, healthier lives so they can
enjoy all of life’s precious moments, and they
know that starts with taking care of your health.
The American Heart Month is a federally desig-
nated event, and is a great way to remind eve-
ryone to focus on their hearts and encourage
them to get their families, friends and communi-
ties involved. We can build a culture of health
where making the healthy choice is the easy
choice.
While American Heart Month is a federally
designated month in the United States, it’s im-
portant to realize that cardiovascular disease
knows no borders. Cardiovascular disease, in-
cluding heart disease and stroke, remains the
leading global cause of death with more than
17.3 million deaths each year. That number is
expected to rise to more than 23.6 million by
2030. If you have cardiovascular conditions
please consider taking advantage of the “My
Life, My Health program” we are offering at the
Rockland Council on Aging.
This February 2, 2018, help the American Heart
Association and Go Red For Women celebrate
American Heart Month and raise Heart Disease
awareness by participating in National Wear
Red day! c/o Aha/Asa newsroom

******* 2018 WINTER SENIOR OLYMPIC WEEK *******
Did you know? ..The first New Year's celebration dates back 4,000 years. Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome, was the first to declare Jan.1 a National Holiday. He named the month after Janus, the Roman god of doors and gates. Janus had two faces, one looking forward and one looking back. Caesar felt that a month
named after this god would be fitting.
