What I am talking about is the fact that God loves you! If not, think about that with me again for a
few minutes.
Several years ago, Dr. Billy Graham was asked what he would do differently in his ministry if he
could. He mentioned three things: 1) Study more, Speak less 2) Spend more time with his family, and less time on the
road 3) Preach more about the love of God.
In the late summer of 1975, I packed up all my belongings into my little blue Ford Maverick and headed to
Southwestern Seminary and Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth was the biggest city I had ever lived in at that time. I felt
pretty overwhelmed and insecure. When I arrived at SWBTS, I went in to a very crowded Administration office. I had
been accepted as a student and was supposed to have a dorm room assignment waiting for me. Something had
happened, though, and due to the “Jesus Movement” of the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the Seminary was overcrowded. I
found out I was number 165 on a waiting list, and there was “no room in the inn”.
That first night I went to a former college friend’s house who told me he knew of the existing problem, and he and his
family had been “expecting” me. Boy, was I glad and did I feel better. Later that night another older, former college
classmate came by to visit. I guess he noticed the bewildered look still in my eyes. In a very special way of
reassurance, he said these words to me, “Kent, if you only knew how much God loves you, you wouldn’t worry about a
thing!”
To be honest, I had heard and known about God’s love all my life, but that was the very first time I had ever really felt
it! My friend’s words touched me deeper than he ever knew. I actually felt the love of the Lord!
Reflecting on this today, do you know one of the most important ways God uses to let us feel His love?
I think it’s through the love of others. I am a “loved” person. My wife loves me. My kids and my grandkids love me.
My mother and family love me. I have lots of “brothers and sisters” in Christ who truly love me. I know I am loved!
It’s a great feeling.
And God has shown me that this is one of the ways I feel His love for me – through the love of others!
You are Loved!
