“It’s our children’s favorite Christmas tradition,” a father told me. His family assembles shoebox gifts that Operation Christmas Child distributes to children in third-world countries. When Dennis, our retail manager, first suggested that our stores become collection points, I thought we’d gather several hundred boxes and it’d be a nice gesture showing that Christmas is more than cookies and colored lights. But you, our customers, weren’t content with a gesture; your overwhelming generosity brought us 2,978 shoebox gifts! We counted those boxes, but we can’t measure the joy of a child when a shoebox tells him that someone cares. And better still - the joy of a child who can give this gift.
