What is LPS 1181?
LPS 1181 is a large scale fire test used aspart of LPCB approval to show thatcombustible linings and composite panelswill not make a significant contribution tofire growth. This represents the earlieststage of a fire before the room orcompartment is fully involved in the fire.Composite panels that have passed thistest are currently given the Grade Bdesignation in the LPCB list of approvedfire and security products and services.
The test comprises building an openended enclosure (approximately the sizeof a domestic garage) from the compositepanels with a timber crib located in onecorner. It tests not only the panels, butalso the jointing methods and supportingsystem as well. This gives a more preciseevaluation of true fire performance thanthe small scale reaction to fire tests usedby regulators, such as the surface spreadof flame and fire propagation tests.
