INTRODUCTION OF SEPARATION AT SOURCE TO CITY WIDE

Consideration must be given to the following: • Waterval model to be extended City wide• Develop and implement a localised marketing and communication

strategy (education and awareness) • Use three receptacle system (240 litre bin for non recyclables, orange

bag for paper and clear bag for glass, plastic and cans)• Provide one clear bag per household per week• Re-commission the Robinson Deep MRF• Establish local sorting facilities (MRFs)• Use service of informal waste removers• Enforce separation at source (Waste Management By-laws)• Formalize Trolley Brigades/reclaimers/waste pickers• Upgrade garden sites as recycling centres• Compost organic waste
