WAVESCENTRALUSERGUIDE

INTRODUCTION

WavesCentralisanapplicationthatletsyouinstall,activateandlicenseyourWavessoftwareproducts(V9.6andabove).UseWavesCentraltoinstallandactivateallWavespluginsandnearlyallWavesapplications(MultiRack,eMotionST,andmore;forthefewexceptions,seewww.waves.com/downloads).

WavesCentralcanbedownloadedforfreefromwww.waves.com/downloads,providedthatyouhaveaWavesuseraccount.ThesameWavesuseraccountinfo(usernameandpassword)willbeusedtologintoWavesCentralinordertoperformproductinstallationsandlicenseactivations.

WavesCentralcoversinstallationsandactivationsforproductsaswellasproductdemos.Itprovidesonlineinstallationandactivationsolutions,aswellassolutionsforofflineinstallationandforwritinglicensestoUSBdevices(forusewithcomputersnotconnectedtotheinternet).

INSTALLINGWAVESCENTRAL

WavesCentralcanbedownloadedfromwww.waves.com/downloads.ThereareseparatedownloadsforWindowsandMac.

MAC

DownloadtheInstall_Waves_Central.dmgfile(or,ifinstallingoffline,locatetheInstall_Waves_Central.dmgfileintheUSBflashdriveornetworkpathtowhichyouhadsavedtheofflineinstaller).

Double-clickthe.dmgfile.ThiswillmountthevirtualdiskimageonyourMac.

InsidetheInstall_Waves_Central.dmgfolder,seetheWavesCentralapplicationalongwithashortcuttoyourApplicationsfolder.

DragtheWavesCentraliconanddropitoveryourApplicationsfoldershortcut.ThiswillcopyWavesCentraltotheApplicationsfolderofyourMac.

Forconvenience,youcancreateadockshortcutbydraggingtheWavesCentraliconfromyourApplicationsfoldertothedock.ThiswillmakeitaccessiblewheneveryouneedtolaunchWavesCentral.


WINDOWS

DownloadtheInstall_Waves_Central.exefile(or,ifinstallingoffline,locatetheInstall_Waves_Central.exefileintheUSBflashdriveornetworkpathtowhichyouhadsavedtheofflineinstaller).Runthefile.

Followtheinstallationinstructionsuntilinstallationiscomplete.

USINGWAVESCENTRAL

1. LAUNCHINGWAVESCENTRALFORTHEFIRSTTIME

WhenlaunchingWavesCentralforthefirsttimeonacertaincomputer,youwillbeaskedtoagreetotheWavesCentralEndUserLicenseAgreement(EULA).Click“IAgree.”

2. PRIVILEGES

WavesCentralneedstowritefilesandconfiguresettingsonyourcomputer.Itwillthereforeperformmostsmoothlywhenrunwithadministratorprivileges.AfterlaunchingWavesCentral,youmaybeaskedforapassword.Thiswouldbeyoursystempassword.Ifyoudonotprovidethepassword,WavesCentralwillstillwork,butspecificfunctionsmaysometimesfail.

Pleasenote:AdministratorprivilegesarerequirednotbyWaves,butbythevendoroftheOSthatyouareusing.Thisisusuallyintendedtoprotectyoufromhazardoussoftware,butmaysometimespreventsafesoftwarefromperformingcertainprivilegedactions.Wavesisdoingitsbesttocomplywithhighsecurityandprivacystandards.Weobviouslywishoursoftwaretoperformoptimallyforourusers’benefit.Ifyourunintoanyproblems,pleaseconsultwww.waves.com/supportorcontactourTechSupportstaffforhelp.


3. WELCOMETOWAVESCENTRAL

TheWelcometoWavesCentralpageprovidesquickaccesstoWavesCentral’sthreemostpopularfunctions:(1)EasyInstall&Activate,(2)InstallProducts,and(3)ManageLicenses.

Inaddition,allofWavesCentral’sproductinstallationandlicensemanagementfunctionsareaccessiblefromthetoptoolbarmenus.ThesemenusremainvisiblefromallWavesCentralpages.

ManyWavesCentralfunctionsrequirethatyoulogintoyourWavesuseraccount.WavesCentralusesyourWavesuseraccounttoobtaininformationaboutyourregisteredproductsandlicensesandtoofferyourelevantselectionsforproductinstallationandlicensemanagement.YoumaylogintoyourWavesaccountbeforeyoulaunchWavesCentral,butyoucanalsologinfromWavesCentralbyclicking“Login”atthetoprightcorner.Whenyouselectafunctionthatrequiresloggingin,WavesCentralwillpromptyoutoenteryourlogininfo.

SomeWavesCentralfunctions—forexampleUninstall,ViewLocalLicenses,andInstallfromanOfflineInstaller—arealsoavailableoffline.

4. EASYINSTALL&ACTIVATE

TheEasyInstall&ActivatepageisagreatplacetobeifyouhavepurchasedanewWavesproductorrequestedademoversion.Usethispagetoquicklyinstallandactivatelicensestothecomputeryouarecurrentlyusing.DonotuseittoinstalloractivatelicensestoaUSBflashdrive.

EasyInstall&ActivateisthefirstshortcutfromtheleftontheWelcometoWavesCentralpage.ItisalsothefirstitemundertheInstallmenuinthetoptoolbar.IfyouchooseEasyInstall&Activateandarenotalreadyloggedin,youwillbepromptedtoenteryourWavesusernameandpassword.


Onceyouareloggedin,youwillseealistofallWavesproductsthathavelicensesonyourlicensecloud.SimplyclicktheblueINSTALL&ACTIVATEbuttonatthebottomrightcorner,andyou’redone!Wheninstallationiscompleted,youwillseeamessagenotifyingyouthatinstallationhasfinishedsuccessfully.

Pleasenote:Whenyoufirstlogin,allproductswithlicensesonyourlicensecloudareselectedbydefault.Youcanchoosetoinstallonlysomeofthembyuncheckingtherest.Onlycheckedproductswillbeinstalledandactivated.ThenexttimeyouvisittheEasyInstall&Activatepage,anyproductsyouhavepreviouslyuncheckedwillagainappearandbeavailableforeasyinstallationandactivation.

Ifyouhavepurchasedseverallicensesforthesameproduct,onlyoneentrywillshow,asthereisnopointininstallingoractivatingmultiplelicensesonthesamecomputer.Theproductwillbeinstalled,andoneofyourproductlicenseswillbeactivated;therestofyourlicenseswillremainonthelicensecloud—soifyou’vepurchasedlicensesformultipleworkstations,EasyInstall&Activateisstillyourquickestchoice.

Ifyouwouldliketoupdateproducts,installonanofflinecomputer,orinstallproductsonanothercomputerwhileyourlicensesareonaUSBflashdrive,moveontotheInstallProductsandManageLicensespages(seebelow).

WhenyouuseWavesCentraltoinstallproductsonasystemwithpreviouslyinstalledWavesproducts,WavesCentralwillremovethepreviouslyinstalledproducts.Youcanre-installthelatestversionoftheseproductsusingWavesCentral.Whenyoustartaninstallation,WavesCentralwilldetectwhetherpreviousversionsareinstalledandpromptyouwiththefollowingdialog:“InstallingWavesproductsusingWavesCentralwillremoveallpreviousversionsofWavessoftware.Doyouwanttocontinue?”


5. INSTALLPRODUCTS

InstallisthemiddleshortcutintheWelcometoWavesCentralpageandtheseconditemundertheInstallmenuinthetoptoolbar.TheInstallpageallowsyoutoselectanyWavesproducts—whetherregisteredtoyouraccountornot—andtoformalistofproductstoinstallonthecomputercurrentlyrunningWavesCentral.

1. IntheInstallfromcolumn,whichistheleftmostcolumnoftheInstallpage,youcanchoosewhethertoinstallonline,fromaUSBflashdrive,orfromalocaldiskornetworkpathcarryinganofflineinstaller.(OfflineinstallersarepreparedusingWavesCentral’sPrepareOfflineInstallerpage:seeSection6below.)ConnectedUSBflashdriveswithanofflineinstallerareautomaticallydetectedbyWavesCentralandwillshowintheleftcolumn,belowthe“Online”optionandabovethe“SelectOfflineInstaller”options.The“SelectOfflineInstaller”optionallowsyoutobrowsefortheofflineinstallonyourlocaldiskornetwork.

2. IntheChooseProductstoInstallcolumn,selecttheproductsyouwanttoinstallbyclickingonthearrowstotherightoftheproductnames.TheselectedproductswillbeaddedtotheSelectedProductslistontheright.

Ifyou’veselected“Online”intheInstallFromcolumn,youwillseetwooptionsatthetopoftheChooseProductstoInstallcolumn:

a. MyWavesProducts–SelectthisoptiontoviewonlyproductsregisteredtoyourWavesaccount.

b. AllWavesProducts–SelectthisoptiontoviewallWavesproducts.ThiswillletyouselectWavesproductsnotregisteredtoyouraccountandinstallthemonthecomputercurrentlyrunningWaves


Central.Thiscanbeusefulwhenyouhaveafriendwithlicensesforproductsthatarenotregisteredinyouraccountbutwhichyouwanttoinstalltemporarily.

3. TheSelectedProductscolumnshowstheproductsyouhaveselectedforinstallation.Youcanremoveproductsfromthelistbyclickingthearrowstotheleftoftheproductnames.Whenyouaredoneselectingtheproducts,clicktheblueINSTALLbutton.

If,wheninstallingspecificplugins,thereareupdatesavailableforyourexistingWavesproducts,you’llbegiventhechoiceofupdatingallofthemwhileyouinstallorjustinstallingthenewones.Installingwithoutupdatingyourotherproductssavestimewhenyouinstalljustafewnewpluginsortestademo.Butwhentimeallows,youshouldupdateyourplugins.Thismessagewillnotappearifupdatesarenotavailable.

WhenyouuseWavesCentraltoinstallproductsonasystemwithpreviouslyinstalledWavesproducts,WavesCentralwillremovethepreviouslyinstalledproducts.Youcanre-installthelatestversionsoftheseproductsusingWavesCentral.Whenyoustartaninstallation,WavesCentralwilldetectwhetherpreviousversionsareinstalledandpromptyouwiththefollowingdialog:“InstallingWavesproductsusingWavesCentralwillremoveallpreviousversionsofWavessoftware.Doyouwanttocontinue?”


6. PREPAREOFFLINEINSTALLER

PrepareOfflineInstalleristhethirditemintheInstallmenuaccessiblefromthetoptoolbar;itdoesnothaveashortcutfromtheWelcometoWavesCentralpage.

UsethePrepareOfflineInstallerpageifyouneedtoinstallproductsonacomputerthatisnotcurrentlyrunningWavesCentral(e.g.,becauseitisnotconnectedtotheinternet)orifyouneedtoinstallthesameproductonseveralcomputersandwanttoskipthedownloadprocessinconsecutiveinstallations.Pleasenotethatyoumustbeonlineinordertoprepareanofflineinstaller.

1. ChooseTargetPlatform–First,selectwhetherthetargetsystemwillbeaMacoraPC.Youcanprepareofflineinstallersforeitherplatformoneitherplatform:iftheonlinecomputeryouarecurrentlyusingisaPCandyourofflinedestinationcomputerisaMac,simplyselectMacasthedestination,andviceversa.

2. SaveOfflineInstallerto–IfyouhavecompatibleUSBflashdrivesconnectedtothecomputer,youwillseethemavailableasdestinationsforyourofflineinstaller.Youcanalsoselectatargetdirectoryandsaveyourofflineinstallertoadiskoranetworklocation—butyoumustrememberwhereyousavedyourinstallers,asyouwilllaterneedtonavigatetotheminordertoinstallthemonyourdestinationcomputer.

Fromhereon,followthesameprocessdescribedinsteps2and3oftheInstallpage.Onceyouhaveselectedthedestinationandtheproductsyouwishtoinstall,clickthebluePREPAREINSTALLERbutton.Whentheprocessiscompleted,youwillseeamessagenotifyingyouthattheofflineinstallerisready.

Keepinmindthatyoucanprepareanofflineinstallerwithseveralproducts,andwhenyouconnecttothedestinationcomputeryouwillbeabletoselectjustasubsetoftheseproductstoinstall.

Pleasenote!ForbothMacOSXandWindowscompatibility,yourUSBflashdrivemustbeFAT32-formatted.


7. UNINSTALL

UninstallisthefinalitemundertheInstallmenu.TheUninstallpagedoesnotrequireauserlogin;itautomaticallyrecognizesanyWavesproductsinstalledonthecomputerthatiscurrentlyrunningWavesCentral.

TouninstallWavesproductsfromthecomputercurrentlyrunningWavesCentral,simplymakeyourselectioninthemiddlecolumn,thenclicktheblueUNINSTALLbuttonatthebottomrightcorner.Whenuninstallationiscompleted,youwillbenotifiedbyamessageonthescreen.

Pleasenote:Wavesapplications(suchasMultiRackoreMotionST)canbeselectedindividuallyforuninstallation.However,uninstallationofWavespluginsisperformedbycompleteversionsonly.Forexample,selecting“AllWavespluginsV9”willremoveallV9plugins.Ifyouwishtouninstallonlypartofanentireversionofplugins,youwillneedtouninstallallpluginsfromthatversionandthenre-installtheonesyouwant.

Expireddemosorpluginswithoutvalidlicensesonthesystemoraconnecteddevicedonotneedtobeuninstalled.

IfyouhaveWavesproductsinstalledonyourcomputerbutnovalidWaveslicensesonyoursystem,youwillbepromptedwiththemessage“NovalidWaveslicensesfound”eachtimeyouopenyourhostapplication.Ifyouhavevalidlicensesforsome(i.e.,atleastone)oftheWavesproductsinstalledonyourcomputer,nomessagewillshow,butwhenyouopenyourhostapplicationyouwillbeabletoseeonlythoseproductsforwhichyouhavelicenses.


8. MANAGELICENSES

ManageLicensesistherightmostshortcutfromtheWelcometoWavesCentralpageandthefirstitemundertheLicensesmenuinthetoptoolbar.UsetheManageLicensespagetomovelicensesinordertoactivateproducts,eitheronthecomputercurrentlyrunningWavesCentraloronaconnectedandcompatibleUSBflashdrive.Youcanalsousethispagetodeactivateproducts,bymovingtheirlicensesfromthecomputerorfromaconnectedUSBflashdrivetootherdevicesorbacktoyourlicensecloud.

IfyouwishtoactivateaWavesproductonaUSBflashdrive,firstconnecttheflashdrive.ForbothOSXandWindowscompatibility,yourUSBflashdrivemustbeFAT32-formatted.

1. LogintoWavesCentralusingyourWavesaccountinformation2. SelectSource.Typically,anewlicensewillbewaitingforyouonyourLicenseCloud.Youcanalsochoosea

USBflashdriveoracomputercarryingrelevantlicenses.3. UnderSelectProducts,chooseyourlicense/s.4. UnderSendLicensesto,selectyourcomputer,USBflashdriveorlicensecloud.5. ClicktheblueSENDLICENSESbutton.

YourWavesproductisnowactivated.

Ifyouhaveactivatedlicensesondevicesthatarecurrentlydisconnected,youcanviewthosedevicesandthelicensesactivatedonthemundertheSelectSourcetab.Youcannotmovelicensestoandfromdisconnecteddevices—butifyoususpectthatyouaremissingalicense,thislistcanhelpyouunderstandwhereitis.

Youcanrecoveryourlicensesonceayearincaseyourdevicehasbeenlost,stolenordamaged.Thisprocessiscoveredinthefinalsectionofthisuserguide.


9. LOCALLICENSES

TheLocalLicensespageistheseconditemundertheLicensesmenuinthetoptoolbar.Itdoesnotrequirethatyoulogin,andwillshowyouallconnecteddevicesthatholdWavessoftwarelicenses.

Ontheleft-handsideyouwillseethelistofconnecteddevices.Toviewthelicensesheldbyaconnecteddevice,selectthedevicefromtheViewLocalLicensescolumninthemiddleofthepage.


10. RECOVERLICENSES

WavesCentraloffersasimplewaytorecoverlicensesforlost,stolenordamagedcomputersorUSBflashdrives.LaunchWavesCentralandloginusingyourWavesaccountinformation.

1. Onthetopmenu,chooseRecoverLicenses.2. FromtheSelectSourcecolumnontheleft,selectthelost,stolenordamageddevice.3. UnderSelectProducts,choosethelicense/storecover.4. UnderSendLicensesto,choosethecomputerorUSBflashdrivetowhichyouwanttosendthelicenses.5. ClicktheblueSENDLICENSESbutton.

YourWaveslicensesarenowrecovered.

Pleasenote:Eachlicensecanberecoveredonlyonceayear:afulltwelve-monthperiodmustelapsebetweenrecoveries.Ifyoulaterfindorretrieveadeviceforwhichalicensehasbeenrecovered,connectittoyourcomputerandlogintoWavesCentral;thetwelve-monthlicenserecoveryperiodwillautomaticallyreset.

Intheeventareplacedlicenseisfound,transferofownershiporsaleofthefoundlicenseisstrictlyprohibited.Violationofthispolicywillresultintherevocationoflicenserecoveryprivilegesfortheassociatedaccount.

Ifyouhavelostlicensesduetoharddiskfailureonyourcomputer,thereisnoneedtorecoverthelicenses.AllyouneedtodoislaunchWavesCentral,logintoyourWavesuseraccount,andthe“synchronize”operationwillrecoverthelicenseautomatically.ForUSBflashdrives,thismayworkiftheflashdriveretainsthesameformatanduniqueIDafterbeingformatted.Ifitdoesnot,youwillneedtogothroughtherecoveryprocessoutlinedabove.


11. UPDATE

EachtimeyoulaunchWavesCentral,itscansyourcomputer’sdrivetodetermineifallofyourWavesproductsareuptodate.Thisincludesplugins,applications,anddrivers.Ifanyofthesearenotthemostcurrentversion,you’llseeUpdatesAvailableatthetopoftheWavesCentralwindow.

Clickthislinktoupdateyoursoftwareimmediately.Thiswilltakeyoutoalistofthesoftwarethatwillbeupdated.ChooseUpdateorCancel.Allout-of-date,licensedWavesproductsonyourcomputer’sharddrivewillbeupdated.Olderversions,onceupdated,willberemoved.Softwarethatisalreadyuptodatewillnotbeaffected.

Ifyouchoosenottoupdateatthistime,yourWavesproductswillcontinuetoworkasexpected.However,ifyoulaterinstallnewerWavessoftwareproducts,includingdemoversions,youmanyencountercompatibilityproblems.Forthisreason,werecommendthatyouupdateyourproductsassoonasisconvenient.

Thisprocessmaytakesometime,dependinghowmanyout-of-dateproductsmustbereplaced.Forthisreason,wesuggestthatyouperformthisupdatewhentimeisnotessential.


12. REPAIR

IntheeventyourWavessoftwareisdamaged,whetherduetoproblemswiththehostcomputerorduringaninstallation,youcanreinstallthefiles.TheRepairfunctioninventoriestheWavesproductsonyourcomputerandreplacesallofthemwiththemostcurrentversion.

RepairislocatedintheInstalldrop-downmenu.OnceyouclickonRepair,you’llbegivenachancetocancel.

RepairisindependentofyourWaveslicense.ItsimplyreinstallsalltheWavessoftwarelocatedonyourcomputer.Thisisafullinstall,soitmaytakesometime.
