I remember taking driver's ed under Coach Taylor and learning first-hand that the instructor side brakes really worked. Apparently, I had gotten too close to a pedestrian while attempting to remain in "my lane" when entering a curve when I should have decreased my speed.
In my junior year, I decided to skip school for a day of shopping in Winston Salem. I presented my "excuse" in homeroom and was asked who wrote it, if I had fun shopping and lastly cautioned to wait until all staff members were in their classes before I left in the future. Needless to say, I tried this a few more times and didn't get caught! A Medical Secretary Degree followed with a BS in Business/Accounting helped to prepare me for a position as an office manager for a medical practice in Winston Salem. Here I learned what the text books failed to teach--accountability, compassion, humility, empathy and definitely, patience.
My next two jobs, payroll supervisor at Forsyth Memorial Hospital followed by accountant for Northern Hospital of Surry County, really put my PATIENCE to the test.
I married Ronnie Haymore (MAHS class '66). We have one son and two precious grandsons, ages 1 and 3. We moved to Pilot Mountain in approximately 1991 and continue to call this area home. We retired in 2014 and enjoy traveling.
