August 10, 2019 Our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EMEs) gather in prayer, formation and sharing at their Retreat—
LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS
Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time. We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus teachings and warnings, and seek to understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen. The confirmation program at St. Lorenzo Ruiz is a two year preparation process. It is open to high school students between the ages of 13 and 17 years old. Students attend a weekly class session where they further explore their faith. They engage in discussions, group activities, and talks led by trained catechists. With their parents and sponsors, they attend evenings of reflection during the advent and Lenten seasons. In addition, they go on a retreat each year to help them on their spiritual journey.
Students are introduced to the community by hosting masses throughout the year. They are also asked to complete twenty service hours each year, a portion of which needs to be done at the parish. All of these combined together help to prepare each candidate to receive the sacrament of confirmation.

OCCUPANCY The value of life does not depend upon the place we occupy. It de-pends upon how we occupy that place. --St. Thérèse of Lisieux
Sunday, August 18, 2019
• The personal question/action for today: When have I experienced division and opposition as I have proclaimed in actions or words the Gospel of the Lord Jesus? How have I handled the conflict? Have I sensed the presence of Jesus with me as I have given witness to the GOoD News? Have I shied away from situations which might lead to confrontation simply because I did not want to be under the pressure of taking a stand for the Lord Jesus? What can I do to be better prepared to face the challenges of those who oppose hearing the Word of the Master-Teacher? How can I show GOD’s love for others while maintaining my allegiance to the Lord Jesus and His message of Truth?

Requirements from the
Archdiocese
O Lord, Loving Abba-Father, we come together
this evening to lift up in prayer all those who have been affected by the violence of active shooters, particularly in Gilroy, California; El Paso, Texas; and Dayton, Ohio. We pray for those who have died, for those who have been injured, for those who have been had loved ones injured or killed by needless violence. We also pray for those who have been first responders or assisted those who have been touched by these acts of hatred. Extend Your loving arms and embrace those who need to be reassured of Your loving presence during these dark days of their lives...
Remembering our brothers and sisters
A heartfelt candlelight vigil was held in remembrance of the victims, families and first responders of the recent violence across the country at St. Lorenzo last Sunday, Aug 11 after the 630 evening Mass.
