QUESTIONS FOR PARSHAS EMOR
BY: THE RAV
First Aliyah: (21:7) Why is a Kohen limited in the choice of Jewish women as a wife?
Second Aliyah: (22:11) If a regular Yisrael cannot eat Kohanic tithes, why is the Kohen’s slave permitted to eat?
Third Aliyah: (22:27) Why must a calf or lamb be eight days old before being brought as a korban?
Fourth Aliyah: Why are the festival laws stated specifically here?
Fifth Aliyah: (23:27) Why is Yom Kippur introduced with the word “Akh” (“But”)…?
Sixth Aliyah: (23:39) Why is Sukkos introduced with the word “Akh” (“But”)…?
Seventh Aliyah: (24:10) Why is the story of the Mekalel (blasphemer) brought at the end of a parsha that’s all about various mitzvos?
Weekly Halachah—Parshas Emor R’ Mordechai Torczyner – [email protected]
If I interrupt a bread‐based meal to use the washroom, should I wash netilas yadayim before resuming the meal?
One who touches a part of the body which is usually covered, or who touches something dirty, is required to wash netilas yadayim before continuing to eat. This is in addition to the ritual washing one does routinely after leaving the washroom, and it is required even if one does not plan to eat more bread. Authorities differ regarding whether one should recite the berachah of al netilas yadayim; the general practice is not to recite the berachah. This is essential for the safety of our children and the protection of Shul property. The Shul will demand reimbursement from any parent whose child is found damaging Shul property.

The Nominating Committee has completed its deliberations. The list of nominees is posted on the bulletin boards and Shul office window.
PLEASE NOTE: According to the constitution, other candidates may be nominated by completing a nomination form (available in the office) signed by the nominee and at least ten members of different family units that are in good standing. This form must be filed with the synagogue’s office prior to 11:59 AM on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS All submissions for the bulletin should now be sent to Avital at her new email address:
OBLIGATIONS PROCESS Important Information for the 2016‐2017 Membership Year!
At BAYT, members only need to complete an Obligations application once every three years so long as the member’s financial circumstances don’t change, which can be confirmed annually by signing a confirmation form. In other words, when an Obligations application is submitted, membership dues would be set for that year and the next two years. Of course, any member who had suffered a downturn in their financial situation is free to submit a new Obligations application and ask for a lower assessment.
If your last application was for 2013‐2014, please make sure you pick up an Obligations application from the office or download one from the Shul’s website. If you submitted an application for either last year or the year before, and your financial circumstances have not changed, then you can keep your dues at the same level by filling out a confirmation form. All forms (available on our website) are due no later than Friday, June 3 if you intend to participate in the seating lottery and Friday, August 19th for everyone else.
For any questions, please feel free to contact:
