Pope Francis has asked: How are we using the Earth’s resources?
This connects directly with the work of D&P. One of their roles is
to assist small family farmers in the poorest regions of the world,
supporting them in overcoming the challenges of climate change,
unjust economic structures and declining access to land, water and
seeds.
Blessing of Animals/Pets – October 4 & 5 – after all Masses.
Bring your pets to be blessed to the side lawn beside the St. Joseph
statue. This tradition is in commemoration of the feast day of St.
Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology.
What is meant by ‘mystery’?
The word means that God escapes our grasp because God is too
rich for us to understand. It means that our minds and hearts will
be continually discovering God without ever completely
comprehending God. We need God’s help to enter into an
understanding of God. The word ‘mystery’ comes from the Greek
‘mysterion’, sometimes translated as ‘sacrament’. In this sense the
sacraments of the Church celebrate moments of special encounter
with God and the experience of God’s presence in our lives.
How to get more from the Mass
Prepare ahead of time. Read the readings before you go to Mass,
asking God to speak to you in them. Gather with friends to read
the readings and discuss how you see these Scriptures coming to
life in your own lives. Do the same with the prayers of the Mass.
Sometimes these prayers go by so quickly that we don’t get much
of a chance to know what we are saying “Amen” to. How do they
speak to your heart? (Living with Christ is a monthly spiritual
companion containing all the Sunday and daily Mass readings and
all the prayers of the liturgy: www.livingwithchrist.us )
(to be continued…)

Gospel John 3:13-17 www.cyberfaith.com
Gospel Reflection
Today's gospel offers us a great insight into Jesus' teaching. In
response to the searching questions of the Pharisee Nicodemus,
who came to see him under cover of night, Jesus leads him
gradually into the deeper truths about God's love for us. We hear
Jesus explain so beautifully that "God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world," but to save the world. And why?
Because "God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son..."
(John 3:16). In other words, God would do anything for us!
Discussion Questions for Gospel
What ought to be our gratitude for God's great love?
What part does the cross play in your personal life?
Do you wear a cross as a reminder of God's unlimited love and
Jesus' willingness to give his life for us?
Or is it merely a piece of jewellery?
How can we imitate the model of Jesus' unselfish love, in our
families and in our relationships with friends?

Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has issued
an appeal for mercy, compassion and justice in the Middle East and
throughout the world, in the name of the Father of life, and of the
Crucified Christ, and of the Spirit of love. We pray that the Holy
Spirit continue to inspire Canadians, particularly the faithful of our
Catholic Church, to support the work of agencies that bring solace
and aid to the persecuted and the exiled. We pray too that the
transforming power of the Spirit inspire political, religious and
community leaders to speak out loudly for justice and
reconciliation, to denounce atrocities, to renounce violence and
oppression, to announce and demand peace.
Sports – any slightly used summer sports equipment (basketball,
volleyball, baseball, football, etc.) as well as baseball caps and
jerseys that you want to dispose of can be dropped off in the
Church. They will be sent to the village of Fr. Vic in the
Philippines.
Hygiene Kits – (toothbrush, 20ml toothpaste, face towel, comb,
nail cutter, small bar of soap, shampoo, etc.) Kits are to be sent by
the end of this year to poor elementary school children in the
Philippines. If you are able to donate, kindly bring them to the
Church. Thank you for your generosity! Fr. Vic.
