From your Pastor’s Desk… Trip to Ireland: I’m going to Ireland from September 21st – October 3rd on The Best of Ireland Tour through Magi Travel and you are invited to join me. I’ve been to Ireland one other time and it is a beautiful place. On this trip we will not only be spending time in the Republic of Ireland but will also be going to Northern Ireland. If you would like more information about the trip please contact me at the rectory. Also, Jim Brady from Magi Travel will be here next Sunday, March 22nd in the Parish Center at 12:30 pm to talk about the trip and answer any questions.

Pastoral Question: On the weekend of February 7th/8th the Pastoral Council asked all parishioners to respond to the following question: “As a member of the parish what do I expect of St. Pius X and what can St. Pius X expect from me?” At the Pastoral Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 10th members discussed the feedback they received after mass. Some of the feedback will take more discussion with the Council and the Staff to see what kind of direction we can take with some of the issues. Other issues that were brought up can be addressed quickly and some I’ll address in this space over the next couple of weeks. There were a number of questions regarding ministry to divorced Catholics and the Annulment process. There was a desire expressed to have assistance with the Annulment process of the Church. For those who have questions about Annulments, I encourage you to set up a meeting with myself or with Fr. Mark. Another valuable resource we have in the parish is Deacon Mike Leick. Deacon Leick has personally gone through the Annulment process and has also been trained by the Archdiocese to assist those going through the process. If you have any questions and are struggling with an Annulment, please don’t hesitate to ask for help. Please Pray for Bishop Elect Joseph G. Hanefeldt: This Thursday, March 19th, is The Solemnity of St. Joseph. I will be in Grand Island that day for the Ordination and Installation of a brother Omaha priest, Msg. Joseph Hanefeldt. He will be Ordained Bishop and then Installed as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Grand Island. It is a great day of celebration for both the Archdiocese of Omaha and the Diocese of Grand Island. Please join me this week in praying for Bishop-Elect Hanefeldt and for the People of the Diocese of Grand Island. Many of us were not taught when we were young and in Catholic Schools or Catechism class how to read the bible, let alone memorize it. Many Catholics are intimidated at times when discussing faith with other Christians because many of them seem to have the Bible, or at least parts of it, memorized. Personally, I’m not much for memorizing Scripture. There are parts that I know well but I couldn’t tell you usually what Chapter and Verse they are. It wouldn’t take me long to find it, but I don’t have it memorized. Today’s Gospel reading from St. John has a verse in it that all of us who are Catholics/Christians should know and memorize. The verse is Jn 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” This is the Gospel and the purpose of Jesus summed up in one verse. It reminds us that God loves us and that love leads to giving us the greatest gift, The Son. The Son, by his sacrifice won for us eternal life. Let’s try to memorize it. Next week there will be a test!

Discussions with the Pastor: You are invited to come and visit with an idea, concern, question, or if you would just like to talk. Feel free to come alone or with others. This week I will be available Tuesday, March 17th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm; Wednesday, March 18th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm; and Saturday, March 21st from 3:30

pm to 4:30 pm. Fr. Mike

Religious Education

News

There is a very dedicated catechist in the Wednesday evening Religious Education Program who has been involved in the religious formation of children for the past nine years. Cyndi Pane started as a co-catechist with Julie Lawslo in Level 7. After a few years, Cyndi felt called to work with children who have special needs and children who needed to “catch up” on their sacraments. Her affiliation for children in those situations propelled Cyndi through five more years as a Special Needs/Sacramental Prep catechist, even though health issues loomed large in her life.

Each catechist in the RE Program has a story to tell

as to what drew him or her to the ministry. Cyndi’s story is

especially compelling because of her heart, her care, and

her concern for children in special situations in life. It has

also spurred her development of a sacramental preparation

program that meets the needs of those preparing for

sacraments while still keeping them with their regular RE

group so that concepts taught at grade level are not missed.

It is dedicated catechists, like Cyndi, who minister so

effectively to both the children and their families, who build

up the Pius community.

“Good News” From St. Pius X/St. Leo School

"St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming

students in the Catholic faith

to excel in academics and service to others."

The Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers held their MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition on Saturday, January 31 at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center in Omaha. There were 250 students from 36 area schools com-peting in this event.

St. Pius X / St. Leo won 9th place out of 36 schools in the team competition, and Joseph McAuliffe and Jon Schroeder placed in the top 20% on the individual exam. Congratulations to the following students who represented

our school so proudly:

Connor Gregg, Brian Martin, Joseph McAuliffe, Teddy Novotny, Sam Raabe, Jon Schroeder and Cameron Snyder.

The several students who came from Prep to help coach MATHCOUNTS were a great support. We thank Mrs. Gorski and Mrs. Harrison for working so hard with these students throughout the school year.

If you have children in grades Pre-School to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then register your child/ren when you decide to come to our school.
