*Reservoir Engineers have to come up with an
optimal field development strategy

ReservoirModel

3/15
*The Economic Model
takes into account present and projected
economic information, such as:
Price of oil and gas
Interest rate
Return on investment
Etc.

4/15
*The Reservoir Model
is used to predict the physical behavior of
the field, in terms of rate of production,
and fluid recovery, for different
operating conditions.
8/13/2019 well test interpretation 1.pptx
5/15
*In order to perform realistic predictions, the
reservoir model must represent the actual
reservoir as closely as possible.
*A reservoir model is neverdefinitive, but must
be adjusted as new information becomes
available when additional wells are drilled
8/13/2019 well test interpretation 1.pptx
6/15
*The parameters used for the construction of
reservoir model are obtained from:
Direct measurements
On cores or cuttings while drilling,
on PVT samples etc.
Results of interpretation of:
Seismic data
Electric log data
Well test data etc.

7/15
*Only well testing provides information on the
dynamic behaviorof a reservoir.
*A well test may provide information on:
Permeability
Initial or average reservoir pressure
Near well bore conditions
Reservoir flow behavior
Reservoir size
Inflow performance responseCommunication between wells etc.

8/15
*A well test essentially consist of recording the
down hole pressure response due to changes in
flowrate.
*The response, which is a function of reservoir
characteristics and the production history, can
be interpreted by analysis of the change inpressure p, versus elapsed time t.

*Reservoir Evaluation
To reach a decision on how to produce a
reservoir or not to produce it at all, we
need to evaluate the reservoir.
*We need the following data:
Deliverability

*Reservoir Management
During the life of the reservoir, we need
to monitor its performance and well
condition

*Well testing and decline curve analysis:
In pressure transient analysis, the
pressure transient is considered to be a
response of a specific flow rate history. In
DCA, we consider flowrate response to a
specific pressure history.
*Theoretically, both are same. Practical
applications are different.
