Every day, London listens as citizens and businesses work to kick-start their dreams and realise their achieve-ments. It responds with constant reinvention – housing schemes in central London’s King’s Cross, mixed-use developments in Stratford’s International Quarter next to the Olympic Park, a new residential, cultural and business quarter in Nine Elms along the River Thames, and the green cityscapes in Royal Victoria Docks. Add the signifi-cant investments in upgrading transport links and greater web traffic capacity than anywhere else in the world, and you have a super-connected city that never stops growing.
London keeps pace with the people who invest their time and energy year after year. It raises them above the challenges they face, creating an ideal environment in which they can work, study, visit and live.

London encourages the free thinkers of the world to come together and create breakthrough change on a global scale.
To foster these ideas and ambitions, London has invested £200 million in innovation centres exploring everything from renewable energy to future cities to cell therapy. There’s also the Google Campus for budding entrepreneurs, The Crystal to improve knowledge of urban sustainability, the Francis Crick Institute and Cell Therapy Catapult to encourage research and collaboration and Tech City to support the world’s fastest growing digital economy.
London offers the perfect ecosystem for great ideas to be transformed into real world products, services and discoveries. In London doors open and lives change as innovation thrives and business and society achieve more.

SUCCESS STORY THE CRYSTAL
Part of the Green Enterprise District on Royal Victoria Docks, Siemens’ £30 million Crystal is the world’s first centre dedicated to improving knowl-edge of urban sustainability. It is one of London’s greenest buildings, wired up with sensors that adjust the heat, light and ventilation automatically to conserve the solar-generated electricity stored in the batteries powering the centre. Operating free from fossil fuels, all aspects of its design take care to conserve energy.
The building serves as a think tank for engineers, R&D teams, city experts and investors who come together on projects to drive sustainable urban innovation, create green collar jobs and showcase best practice in urban planning and design.
“East London’s wharves and warehouses led the capital’s global dominance of the industrial age, and I want this area to be the 21st century equivalent. We are working to attract the best new high tech industries and environmental businesses to bring investment and jobs to Londoners. Siemens’ Crystal is a perfect platform to help kick-start this regeneration, demonstrating the type of dynamic partnership I want London to forge with global innovators in order to create the best big city in the world.”

SUCCESS STORY NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States, has been playing one regular season contest in London every year since 2007, and has committed to do so un-til 2016. The six games held in London to date have drawn crowds ranging from 76,000 to more than 84,000, with each game generating over £22 million to the economy.
“Since we started playing regular season games in London five years ago, we have heard very clearly from our UK fans they want more football. We are excited to play two games in London and take this next step in the growth of our game. We believe that more football will lead to more fans.”
Roger GoodellCommissioner, NFL
“From our cultural and language point of view, going to London and playing there and developing the game made sense. We have such a following in the UK and people really grab on to the game. It’s wonderful to see another country embrace our sport, and by bringing the real game there I think they have really loved it.”

Since graduating from London’s Royal College of Art, Thomas Heatherwick has flown the flag for London with a variety of astonishing feats of design and engineering. From the stunning Olympic cauldron, to Shanghai Expo’s seed cathedral, to a fresh imagining of the London bus, Heatherwick has set a new bar for extraordinary creativity.
“I am really interested in the infrastructure of London. There is a character and idiosyncrasy that we now expect from art in buildings like Battersea Power Station, or the Underground. There is pride, integrity and incredible quality. I do not differentiate between infrastructure and architecture; I see them as one area.”

Born into the Michelin starred world of his father (Albert Roux) and uncle (Michel Roux Sr), Michel Roux Jr always had cooking in his blood. In 1993 he took over Le Gavroche, the Mayfair restaurant the Roux brothers had founded in 1967. Since then he has opened two more of the capital’s leading restaurants, Roux at Parliament Square and Roux
at the Landau at the Langham Hotel. Though committed to his French as well as his English roots, Roux is a true Londoner, and still works in his kitchens three or four times a week learning from new talent and pushing new gastronomic boundaries. “London is a fantastic and vibrant city. It is a pleasure to live and work here. You witness the diversity
of the capital daily and I never get tired of the way you can walk down one street and enjoy a completely different atmosphere to the one before. A great place, full of energy for building a business and spaces to relax and unwind – it would be difficult to imagine living anywhere else.”
