M e t h o d o l o g i c a l l y , m u l t i - c e n t r e c o l l a b o r a t i v e s t u d -

i es c a n p r o v i d e m u l t i p l e s im u l t a n e o u s r e p l i c a t i o n s o f

a f i n d in g , a d d i n g c o n s i d e r a b l y t o t h e c o n f i d e n c e w i t h

w h i c h f i n d i n g s c a n b e a c c e p t e d . P r a c t i c a l ly , a c c u m u -

l a t i o n o f c a s e s i n q u a l i t y o f l i fe s t u d i e s , p a r t i c u l a r l y

w h e n s t u d y i n g r a r e d i s o r d e r s , i s s o m e t i m e s h e l p e d b y

T h e r e a r e s e v e r a l i m p o r t a n t p r o j e c t s u n d e r w a y t o

t r a n s l a t e e x i s t i n g s t a n d a r d i z e d q u a l i t y o f l i f e

H o w e v e r , t h e s e p r o j e c t s h a v e te n d e d t o b e c o n c e r n e d

m o s t l y w i t h t h e l a n g u a g e s o f E u r o p e a n d N o r t h

A m e r i c a . F u r t h e r m o r e , a s w e h a v e a r g u e d e l s e w h e r e

[ 5 ] , t h e d a n g e r w i t h t h e t r a n s l a t i o n o f a n e x i s t i n g

m e a s u r e i s t h e d i s t o r t i o n i n r e s u l ts t h a t c a n a r i s e f r o m

t h e u s e o f i n a p p r o p r i a t e h e a l t h - r e l a t e d q u a l i ty o f l i fe

c o n s t r u c t s , w h i c h a r e v a l i d i n t h e s o u r c e l a n g u a g e

s e t t i n g , b u t n o t i n t h e t a r g e t l a n g u a g e s e t t i n g . F o r

e x a m p l e , a u t o n o m y i s a n i m p o r t a n t d i m e n s i o n r e -
