The Big Easy Gets a Little Jazzier
Since its launch in 2004, The Big Easy
has been well received by critics and beloved consumers. Although the wine is stylistically very different from our Rodney’s Vineyard syrah, over the years there have been the inevitable comparisons. In order to differentiate the two wines and add a little jazz to our line-up we have developed a new package for The Big Easy that takes this wine back to its roots, so to speak.
The label was created by Southern artist, Diane Millsap, and depicts a classic New Orleans street scene: a vibrant French Quarter at night, when the city comes alive with jazz, the smell of Creole cuisine and a multitude of people in the mood to celebrate life.
As you well know, the wine itself is fashioned to be enjoyed with a wide array of bold flavors, inspired by Creole and Cajun cuisine, though it is also an ideal barbecue wine. The Big Easy will now incorporate additional Rhone varietals in addition to syrah, and should now be considered a proprietary red blend.
We hope that you will continue to enjoy the wine and celebrate its new look.
93 points Fess Parker Syrah, Rodney’s Vineyard, 2007
“The most profound wine of this group is the 2007 Syrah Rodney’s Vineyard. Blackberry, damp earth, white chocolate, cocoa, and pepper aromas jump from the glass of this inky/ruby/purple-colored wine. The sweetness of the tannins, full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel, and layered, multidimensional finish add up to a stunning Central Coast Syrah to drink over the next decade.”
91 points Fess Parker Big Easy, 2007
“The 2007 Syrah The Big Easy is a richer, fuller-bodied, more powerful wine, but, in keeping with Fess Parker’s stylistic orientation, it remains very approachable with silky tannins as well as more oak and flesh. It is a deep, chewy, rich effort displaying plenty of blackberry, incense, and toasty oak notes. Full-bodied and opulent, it is best consumed over the next 7-8 years.”
90 points Fess Parker Syrah, American Tradition Reserve, 2007
“The 2007 Syrah American Tradition Reserve is a sexy, open-knit, opulent style of Syrah with a plum/garnet color, and a sweet perfume of bacon fat, black cherries, and black currants. Deep, round, pure, and fleshy, this evolved Syrah is meant to be drunk in its first 2-4 years of life.”
89 points Fess Parker Viognier, Rodney’s Vineyard, 2008
“The 2008 Viognier Rodney’s Vineyard exhibits more minerality, nectarine notes, crisper acids, and a fuller, richer mouthfeel. It should drink well for 1-2 years.”
88 points Fess Parker Viognier, Santa Barbara County, 2008
“The 2008 Viognier Santa Barbara is an inexpensive, tasty introduction to what Santa Barbara Viognier is all about. Abundant notes of tropical fruits, apricots, and white peaches emerge from this richly exuberant, fruity, round, generous, crowd-pleasing white wine. Consume it over the next year.”
87 points Fess Parker Syrah, Santa Barbara County, 2007
“The basic 2007 Syrah Santa Barbara is also very good. A mid-weight Syrah with immediate accessibility, it possesses soft berry fruit intermixed with roasted herb, pepper, and spice characteristics. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, tasty, and fleshy, it can be drunk now and over the next 2-3 years.”

“While Fess Parker’s single-vineyard and upper-level cuvées are unquestionably serious wines, he also produces some of the finest values that emerge from Santa Barbara.”
