Plot Rentals & Education
LOWER RATES for NOW AVAILABLE! Check out the Palisade Community Garden on West 4th
Street. Town of Palisade supplies water, soil, and a community compost. Low-income rates
available for qualifying participants: WIC, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and free or reduced lunch
program participants are eligible to apply.

Pruning Tips: Join the Colorado State Forest Service for a free lecture on proper pruning for trees and
shrubs. Learn about the best times, methods, and proper tools for pruning in the Grand Valley.
This class requires a minimum of 5 participants to run.
Seedling Starters: Start your garden early with home grown seedlings using recycled materials from your
home. Seedlings will be ready for garden transplant in May. Palisade Recreation will provide all supplies.
Each participant will take home a batch of seedlings.
Aquaponics: Join the ladies at Sprigs & Sprouts for a private tour of the newest farm addition. Learn the
basics of aquaponics start up and the benefits. Stay after the tour for lavender tastings.
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Early Morning Orchard Agritour: Enjoy a tour of Early Morning Orchard gardens, greenhouses, and
orchard. Learn tips and tricks for your own personal garden from professional gardeners. Get the basics
on appropriate growing times. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Transportation provided.
Gardening Classes
Join Palisade Recreation and special guests for educational programs and hands on gardening classes for
all ages. Each class must have a minimum of 3 participants to run, please RSVP by the deadline.

Youth Conditioning (Ages 8-12): Stay active and gear up for the next sports season. Youth conditioning incorporates a variety of games and agility drills help youth build strength and endurance, improve flexibility, and decrease the risk of sport injury.

Youth Tennis (Ages 8-12): Whether new to tennis or wanting to improve tennis skills and

Winter Swim Conditioning (Ages 8-14): Join the Palisade Swim Team! Winter conditioning is designed to get swimmers ready for the summer competitive season, with a focus on drills, stroke techniques, and endurance swimming. Participants must be proficient in freestyle and backstroke, understand the basics of breaststroke, and be able to swim a minimum of 50 yards without stopping.

Dodgeball & Capture the Flag (Ages 7-13): Youth are invited to join Palisade Recreation the third Tuesday of each month for an afternoon of friendly competition and camaraderie, playing some of Palisade youth’s favorite active games.

Rookie Rugby (Ages 8-12): Participants will learn the rules of the game, techniques for passing,
how to set up plays, create space, and engage in a variety of drills. Coached by advanced players
from the Grand Junction Rugby Club. Program will include a scrimmage and watching a
collegiate match.

Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge (Ages 7-14): Youth are invited to show off their basketball skills through the Palisade local competition. Participants will compete in passing, dribbling, and shooting. First place male and female finishers of each age division will advance to sectionals, to be held at a later date in Grand Junction.

Core Strength & Tone: Strengthen the core, tone muscle, enhance flexibility, and improve
balance through this low-impact workout incorporating basic Pilates and Yoga movements.
Weights for Life: Get the heart pumping, build strength, tone muscle, improve balance, and
flexibility in this low-moderate impact class incorporating weight training and cardio intervals.
Yoga: Both classes are beginner/intermediate level classes that begin with a sun salutation and
end with a guided meditation. These classes are a blend of Iyengar, Hatha yoga, and Kundalini
with a short vinyassa yoga segment.

Fun in the Snow & on the Trails
Snowshoe Series: Head to the Grand Mesa to play in the snow with Palisade Recreation. Each
month we will explore a new trail. Dress in layers, pack water, lunch, dry boots, and snowshoes
or cross country skis. Bring money for hot chocolate after snowshoeing.

Group Trips
Moab Day Trip: Journey to the adventure capital of Utah for a full day of history, hiking, and
breath taking scenery. The group will drive Scenic Byway 279 with stops to see ancient rock art
and dinosaur tracks, followed by a hike into the Corona and Bowtie Arches. Finish up the day
with a visit to Dead Horse Point State Park. Pack a lunch, comfortable shoes, layers water,
sunscreen, and extra spending money.

Botanicals & Biology: Learn about the plants of Western Colorado with a visit to Western
Colorado Botanical Gardens. This day outing will include a tour of the gardens, biology walk on
the Colorado Riverfront Trail, and educational talk from a local botanist. Pack a snack, water,
dress in layers, and wear comfortable shoes.

Glenwood Springs Day Trip: Enjoy some of the best views in the state with a hike to Hanging
Lake and Spouting Rock. The hike is short but strenuous, with plenty of resting spots. After
lunch we will take a time period tour of historic Hotel Colorado, and unwind with a relaxing soak
in the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. Dress in layers, pack a lunch, water, swim gear, and your
camera.

Arbor Day Celebration: Celebrate spring and trees with a fun interactive and educational family
event. Poster winners of the Arbor Day poster contest will be announced. Tree planting, grow
your own seeds, and crafts available.

Outdoor Heritage Days: Try a variety of outdoor activities including fishing, shooting, birding,
tying flies, and much more. OHD will also feature the Palisade Bike Rodeo, kids will learn a
variety of bike safety skills and get their bikes checked out for the season.
