WOCLEADSDISCUSSIONSATWORLDWATERWEEKONLAND-BASEDSOURCESOFMARINEPOLLUTIONTheWorldOceanCouncil(WOC)isChairingaSessiononBusinessLeadershipinTacklingLand-BasedSourcesofMarinePollutionattheWorldWaterWeek25August2018 SeniorcorporaterepresentativeswillbringindustryperspectivesandexamplesonaddressingthelinkagesbetweenlandandseaandimplementingSustainableDevelopmentGoals6and14.Thesessionwillconveneon27AugustduringWorldWaterWeek(Stockholm,26–31August)withafocuson“Water,ecosystemsandhumandevelopment”.Decision-makersandbusinessinnovatorsfromaroundtheglobewillbegatheringatthisannualeventinStockholmtofosternewthinkinganddevelopsolutionstothemostpressingwater-relatedchallengesoftoday.Onesuchchallengeconcernstheramificationsofland-basedactivitiesforfreshwater,marineandcoastalsystems,whichcompromiseecosystemhealthandvariousaspectsofsustainabledevelopment.TheU.N.SustainableDevelopmentGoals(SDGs)haveproposedtoaddressthisby“improvingwaterqualitybyreducingpollutionby2030”(Goal6.3),andby“preventingandsignificantlyreducingmarinepollutionofallkindsby2025”(Goal14.1).Industryorganizationsandtheirmembercompanieshavebeguntorecognizetheimportanceofthelinkagesbetweenlandandseaintheiroperations,andofcross-sectoralleadershipandcollaborationinensuringthateffortsbyindividualcompaniesandsectorsachievethesynergiesnecessarytoaddressthesechallenges.ThissessionwillbringtogetherrepresentativesfromInterIKEAGroup,Borealis,H&M,StockholmInternationalWaterInstituteandmore,alongwithWOCCOOChristineValentinasmoderator,toexamineindustrialchallengesandopportunitiesontheroadaheadforachievingSDGs6and14.BusinessLeadershipforOceans—Source-to-seaSolutionsDate/Time:27August2018(Monday),14:00–15:30Venue:NLMusicHall,CityConferenceCentre,Stockholm,SwedenWOCParticipation:COOChristineValentinasModerator
