Dear Woodland Families! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with friends and family, and that you are off to a great start in 2020. We have been super excited to have your children back and they are “digging in” to their learning! Jill, Abby, Michael, and I had some great family time over the holidays as well. As we kick off a new decade at Woodland, we are excited to make the second half of this school year even better than the first!
As we reflect on our New Year’s resolutions, we continue with the same one at Woodland. Simply put, we strive to continue meeting the needs of every child at our school. We take seriously the re-sponsibility we have in shaping our students’ futures. Each day the teachers and staff members work to meet your child’s specific needs. We are continually proud of our students and look forward to helping them develop as problem solvers, communicators, mathematicians, and people!
As we approach the end of our Fall Semester, this is an appropriate time to restate the importance of instilling work ethic, focus, and engagement for our students. As our teachers work hard during the day to help your children develop as readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem-solvers, we know that an extension of this development happens outside of the school day. One of the best ways for you to help your children with their development is to have a reading experience with them each night. Many students read before bed, read back and forth with parents, read to a younger sibling, and some read for hours on end. Finding time every night to engage in reading will continue to be the most important thing you can promote to help your child with their learning. I also encourage you to have conversations about their reading. Ask questions, make predictions, and talk about what you enjoy when reading. In regards to math, asking students to explain their thinking, show their work, or teach you, are great ways for them to engage as mathematicians as well.
Continued on Page Two
Lastly, and most importantly, as we grow our problem solvers, continue to let your children try things on their own, make mistakes, and be inquisitive. Sometimes it is easy for us to think we are helping our kids by “doing” things for them. I do it all the time! What really helps them is allow-ing them to make mistakes, to learn from these mistakes, and to continue moving forward as they “figure things out” and grow their independence. Thank you for helping us develop problem solv-ers for the future!
As we work in 2020, THANK YOU for giving us your kids to work with each day. I am forever grateful to be part of the Woodland community and proud to serve as your principal. I am looking forward to the coming months of learning! As always, my door is open and I welcome you to stop by, email us, or call anytime that you have questions, comments, or concerns. All my best to you and your families! Sincerely,
Timothy M. Doleysh, Ph.D.

REPORT CARDS - INFINITE CAMPUS
WOODLAND SKATE NIGHT
As we approach the end of the second quarter, please be aware that the “Grades” tab in Infinite Campus
will be closed to parents starting on January 17th and opening again on January 31st after 5:00 pm. Clos-
ing the “Grades” tab allows teachers the opportunity to enter student grades and create the progress re-
ports. On January 31st you can access your child’s report card via Infinite Campus.
Please note that when reviewing your student’s report card, teacher comments do not
show up in the portal when looking at the main Grades screen. They do, however, if you
access the Reports screen. From there, you can generate a report card in pdf format
that will have all the comments. If you need to set up your parent portal account in Infi-
nite Campus, please click here.
Woodland Skate night at Skate City will be held on Tuesday,
January 21st from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm

will win a prize! You can help make the counting easier by cutting them out on the
dotted lines (the box top company is very strict about this) and put them in groups of

tration forms can be completed online at http://www.kimberly.k12.wi.us/departments/enrollment/
kindergarten. Please contact Jodi Neuber at [email protected] if you have any questions.
OPEN ENROLLMENT
The timeline for submitting open enrollment applications is February 3, 2020 to April 30, 2020 at 4:00 pm.
A link to the open enrollment application will be available on the Kimberly Area School District website,

please contact Jen Bixler at 423-4166.
WEATHER CANCELLATIONS
Winter is right around the corner. If weather conditions dictate that there will be no school or a delayed start, a decision to keep the schools closed is usually made by 6:00 a.m. Parents with students in school receive a direct call, text and/or email from our auto-call system through Infinite Campus since that is the fastest way to communicate with thousands of par-ents at one time.
As a reminder: If you have a new phone number or email address, please update your information in the Infinite Campus parent portal or contact your school’s secretary to update the portal. Also, weather alerts go out using the "General Notification" make sure you have the "General" box checked when verifying your Infinite Campus notifica-tions. Announcements are also sent to local T.V. and radio stations, please tune to local stations such as these rather than call the school directly: WAPL-105.7FM, WIXX-101.1FM, WHBY-1150AM, WKFX-104.9FM, WEMI-91.9 FM, WTAQ-97.5FM/1360AM, WWWX-96.9FM and WGEE-93.5FM; and WBAY-TV2, WFRV-TV5, WGBA-TV26, and WLUK-FOX11. If other school events, such as concerts or sporting events are also cancelled because of weather, they are typically communicated through these stations as well.
The District’s website and Facebook page are not our primary way to communicate school closures, so we ask par-ents to listen to the auto-call messages or tune in to the radio and T.V. stations listed for the timeliest updates.

Lunch Supervisors Needed
Are you looking for a part-time job while your children are
in school? Become a lunch supervisor! This job allows
you to get your children off to school in the morning,
leaving a few hours to complete errands and chores (or
just relax) and still lets you to be there when they get
home from school. The hours are approximately 10:45 to
1:15 and you can work as many as five days or as few as
one day per week. The schedule follows the school year
calendar so when your children don’t have school you
don’t work. What could be better than that? There’s
more! This paid position offers you the opportunity to
interact with students while they are in the cafeteria and
out on the playground. Have you ever wondered what it’s
really like at school? Come work at Woodland and see!
For more information contact Ms. Peggy at
[email protected] or call 920-730-0924. It’s a
great opportunity for the right person, don’t miss your
chance!
