Our fall sale was a huge success thanks to all of you who participated in
one way or another. Perhaps you DONATED items for sale, you were one
of those who helped SORT the items, or you were one of those who
PURCHASED an item or two. A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone
involved. A special thank you to the people who donated their time and
trucks to haul the leftovers away. Without each and everyone of you , it
could not be the success it was. We raised $1,243! The next rummage sale
is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2019. Hope to see you there!

WITNESS TO HOPE UPDATE
Hi! It’s me again with another update on our
Campaigns. Last time we looked at the oversight the
Lansing Diocese has in place to ensure a sound
fiduciary. We also took a glance at some of the
diocese-wide items your WTH pledges are funding.
Now let’s look at how Bunker Hill is, and will, use their local portion of WTH
pledges. We’ll look at Mason’s plans in another article. First, you’ll recall
that as local WTH pledges are collected they’re split between the
diocese and the particular parish from which they come. The portion that
goes to the diocese and the part that returns to the parish is on a sliding
scale. As a parish moves through the five year program maturation a
larger and larger part of it’s incoming parishioners pledges go to the local
parish. And I remind you that the WTH pledge and plan that was created
in Bunker Hill - stays “through-to-completion” entirely in Bunker Hill, merger
notwithstanding.
When Sts Cornelius and Cyprian parishioners planned their WTH pledge
drive, over two years ago, they created parish-specific priorities for their
portion of their pledges. Also, due to some emergent needs, they were
granted “early spend” for some of their account (all parishes get regular
funding to their unique accounts from their ongoing WTH pledges but, are
asked to hold-off on local spending until their account reaches a
minimum). To that end Bunker Hill has already bought new hymnals,
replaced a forty year old truck (used to plow snow, haul, and for
cemetery upkeep). There’s new carpet and interior paint in the old nuns’
residence, now called the ‘White House’; which holds our Bunker Hill youth
programs. Future issues that will be funded by further incoming Bunker Hill
pledges include: carpet and floor tile in the church and sacristy, catch-up
payments to the diocese for back assessments, and a capital fund
set-aside to help ensure that there’s money to keep one of the oldest and
widely treasured church buildings in all of Ingham County, and northern
Jackson County, in sound repair.
Wow!, good work on Catholic Church Road!
Again, if you have questions (or suggested topics) re. WTH; reach out to
me through either office. If you weren’t here or couldn’t pledge to WTH in
the beginning … you may still do so. Contact either of our offices for that
purpose. Dean Baker
